Hi all, I am well aware that the 12 step method is the most successful approach to sobriety, but it isn’t what works for me. Since this app is heavily leaning on the 12 steps I decided to delete my account and switch to SMART or something similar instead. I’ve been a happy non drinker for three months now, and while staying sober is not always easy at first, it’s now very manageable without meetings, declaring myself an alcoholic, or relying on a higher power. Wishing everybody here all the best, stay on track, and take care of yourselves
Wishing you the best Nadja! Not all of us on here are 12-steppers, but I understand the frustration.
I’m actually a SMART facilitator, in addition to being involved in AA. I like to think that there’s something for everyone, and there is no “one size fits all” solution. You have to do what works for you. I would encourage you to stay on the app, you may hear something that helps you and you may share something that helps someone else.
All the best to you in your recovery!
Hi Nadja! I too can understand your frustration. However, I hope you would reconsider, or at least check in every so often and let us know how you are doing. This is a recovery support app. A lot of us are learning from sharing our own recovery success and failures. We all benefit from hearing how you are staying sober and growing in your recovery. I’m an AA first guy, but thanks to this app I’ve added so much to my overall recovery. There are many suffering people on here that need to hear your story. They need to hear that there are other ways. Before Loosid, I could only suggest things based on my experiences, but now I’m been able to share alternatives to AA because of the success stories I hear on here. One last thing before I go just to point out how diverse this site is. I know of a great guy who left here a month or so ago for the complete opposite reason. He thought there wasn’t enough AA. I love recovery and hearing all the ways people are staying sober, or just as importantly learning what doesn’t work. So, please check back every so often to say hi and share how it’s going
There are people from so many different programs with different views on this app. The great thing is we all have 1 thing in common, the desire to become better versions of ourselves

Thanks for your comments all. And yes, the 12 steps frustrate me immensely! Not because they don’t work for me. Different strokes for different folks, no problem. What I cannot stand is the claim that 12 steps are the only way to get sober. That working the steps is a must. Half of the daily tips this app throws at me are more annoying than helpful. But I’ll give it a few more days
Like you said "different strokea for different folks". Some people have nothing else left but 12 steps. Some people detox in jail or at another state facility. Some people have a support system and others have nothing of the sort whether their own doing or not. Some people get to dry out on big luxury boats or in some remote facility, like Keith Richards. But everyone's needs are the same. To get sober and stop f#&king up our lives. AA has been a support system for me for the last 24 days and I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the men and women involved, all the hard work they put in. I am n atheist, but I still see the value in the program.
I get it. I live in a small community where AA is my only option. I go for the fellowship, not the program. I know I sound like a broken record, but AA is a Fellowship, with a suggested program of recovery. Those facts are read at every meeting, but for some reason people think you NEED to work their program. You do not. It’s a fellowship with only one requirement, the desire to stop drinking. Everything else is optional, anyone who says different should reread the preamble and how it works.
