Hi. Does anyone use an alternative to AA as a program

Hi.
Does anyone use an alternative to AA as a program for sobriety that works?
Looking for one with a similar meeting format that's nationwide. I am in the Clearwater, FL area.
Thanks in advance.

Refuge Recovery and Recovery Dharma are based in Buddhist philosophy (don't have to be Buddhist though!), SMART recovery is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Hope those help, proud of you!

Thanks for the info.

I prefer NA. Less structured and more gritty. Also, this place helps reinforce that sobriety between meetings. Lots of positivity. There really is no short cuts to recovery tho that I’ve ever seen. Not long term recovery. Might work in the short term. Yet, this disease has patience that lasts forever.

Not looking for a shortcut, and I have no problem with AA so far, just looking for alternatives that are out there that may be better for me personally.

No problem. Hope you find other things to help you along your sober path. Good luck.

I’m looking into Refuge Recovery and Recovery Dharma at the moment. I’ve been on their websites and reading parts of their handbooks. There are Recovery Dharma meetings 45 minutes from my house. So far, I like them equally.

I use AA, but I also use SMART Recovery, and I use any other tools that I find useful.

Millions of recovering alcoholics can't all be wrong.

Thanks. I really take offense when AA says the only way to stay sober is surrendering to God. It takes away a persons willpower and resolve, which is needed when you are dealing with addiction. The strict religion of AA has actually caused me to go a long time without any peers or a group. Noone should be told they are going to burn for eternity if they dont accept Jesus(the church telling you what to do). Catholicism scared the life out of me and I have PTSD from that which has led to addiction problems. Buddhism helped me battle with many of those demons... Will be attending the local Buddhist groups.

I found my home in NA. I have some of the most amazing friends and my recovery has never been stronger.

What Is Rational Recovery?

Rational Recovery (RR) is an addiction recovery program developed by Jack Trimpey. Its goal is to help people overcome alcoholism.

Unlike Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), it doesn’t call for a higher power. RR is a true self-help program that promotes abstinence through self-autonomy.

Who said anyone is wrong?

Whereas AA is the largest recognized recovery organization it is not the only program that works. Loosid is a safe haven for those in recovery in every modality.

I come from a strong line of Catholic’s on both sides of my family, and I mean very strong Catholic’s . I left the Catholic Church at the age of 61. If I missed one Sunday service through my own fault, I would burn for eternity. I left the church and joined a different church. Some of my relatives think poorly of me for doing this. I understand your PTSD.

I also believe that alcoholic’s can recover with a different program that is not AA. Good luck to you!

Hmm. Safe haven or recovery? Tough decision.
