Hi everyone, I’m Greg and I’m an alcoholic, I’ve been

Hi everyone, I’m Greg and I’m an alcoholic, I’ve been sober since Sunday. I’m really struggling with controlling my emotions and feelings. I seem to be so angry for no reason, and frankly I’m taking it out on the person that’s trying to help me the most. The one I’m supposed to love is taking the blunt end of things. Yesterday was one of the worst days/fights we have had all because of me. I have no idea why I’m so angry and why I feel this way but it’s like I can’t control it. Any help, suggestions, comments would be appreciated

I’ve been to a meeting everyday since Sunday, last night wasn’t able to make it. Going to make one this evening. Thank you.

Good morning, thank you! I’m doing my best but trying not to hurt people along the way. Taking one day at a time.

Thank you, yes there is not just with my alcoholism but the past trauma that I was hiding with the alcohol as well. I would love to join that soon today but unfortunately I work from 7-3.

I've been on both sides of this battle. Yes, as your sober days add up, your feelings will go through the ringer. They will settle down. Take a bit of time now to thank and give back some support to those who have been there for you. They probably feel pulled through the ringer too. Proud of you. Keep reaching out

Thank you very much, I’m going to do just that and yes she does feel that way. Last night out of anger I said some pretty hurtful things. Doing a lot of self reflecting and taking accountability for my actions.

Meditation has helped me IMMENSELY. The first time I got sober by myself I walked A LOT, did yoga and spent a lot of time by myself.. this really helped me avoid lashing out ony family. Kept me sober for 2 years..... until covid.

Pick up an AA book. There's a lot of peace in the first few chapters. Hearing others stories and realizing since creation of alcohol people have struggled against their fight with alcohol is comforting.

Yes, do whatever it takes to make it through the day…sober.

Thank you, greatly appreciate all the advice. I have wanted to get a book but now I’m going to go get one ASAP. As far as mediation, I don’t take time for myself and that’s always been a problem. That’s something I’m learning to do at the moment.

It's an absolute necessity. I'm learning that here in treatment. Taking on too much, not taking time for myself, leads to triggering.

If you do want to try meditating, a good app just recommended to me was insight timer. Guided meditations and words of affirmation in as little as 5 min. May help you moment to moment as you feel your anger and anxiety start to rise. Maybe you can head it off before it gets to the explosive point.

Good luck my friend!
