Hi, I’m new and I am 62 yr old alcoholic and have been struggling with it for the last 35 yrs and I keep trying and I keep failing! The longest time that I was sober was 2 days shy of a year. I’m going to be 62 in about 15 days and I just want to stop the craziness.
Have you gone to any recovery programs? My suggestion would be get to one and be honest with the group and with yourself. You can get sober if you truly want to and are honest with yourself.
Thank you so much for sharing. I come from long line of alcoholics. Seeing what it has done to my dad and grandma has been my motivation. I must stop the cycle! You will stop the cycle too! I just know it!
Never to old or young to get sober. You can do this. Have before, can again. Welcome back. A new you awaits.
It will affect your health at that age. You must consider all options and be willing to do anything it takes or it will come close to killing you or bringing health problems. Your family or loved ones will be hurt or burdened by it.
I did it at 56.
I’m 57. I’ve been dealing with this monster for 30 years. We can do this. Loosid is helping me a lot. Hang in there
I finally did it in my 50's. I reeducated myself on addiction. There has been incredible progress made. Listen to current podcasts and ebooks. It gave me hope. The Neuroscience of Addiction - Marc Lewis and the Craving Brain, hosted by Elizabeth Vargas are my favorite Youtube podcasts. When I was lonely and depressed (thinking about my next drink) I listened to a podcast. It helped me understand and got me through those tuff times. Our friends and family aren't always there and a meeting isn't always available when we need them. These tools are at our fingertips at our most vulnerable times. I did it and I promise it's possible for you too .
Hang in there. I am 72 and have been sober for 18 months. I cannot tell you how much better life is now that I am sober. Never been sober for longer than 30 days in over 35+ years. It can be done.
I’m finally serious about my sobriety after 30+ years of drinking. I’ve got almost 4 months now. Many, many day one’s. There is hope. U can do it, you’ve done it before for almost a year. That’s a long time. Think about what triggered ur relapse and just keep trying. Do something different than u did last time and keep coming back here. We’re all in this together
Yes Brenda, you can do this. I was drunk most of the time for 30 years too. I finally got that gift of desperation. Never too old! Welcome to a great group. Reach out anytime!
