Hi, I’m new to Loosid. I’m not sober yet, but desperately want to be. I’ve been in and out of 12 step for a long time. Nothing seems to work.
Unfortunately for us… the only thing that usually works is full defeat, demoralization and an understanding that we can never safely drink again. I hope you can find sobriety before that and I have seen that happen. My story is that alcohol defeated me and was going to kill me, lord knows I tried everything I could think of for years to stop but couldn’t. When I was fully defeated and willing to do anything to save my life is when I was able to find success in a 12 step program. I’m a free man today.
I ran a revolving door in and out of recovery. 3 - 30 day rehabs, jail, twice in a mental facility, multiple ER's, dead twice in once day ( kept the ER strip ...), but still I didn't figure it out until I found an Epic bottom. I pray nobody has to repeat my journey, but sadly, it seems to be SOP. Stay close to a program and find a sponsor. Best wishes.
Inpatient treatment can give you space and time. Especially somewhere that deals with coexistence and other disorders that recovery groups can't offer. There's usually more than just enjoying the taste of ethanol to all of us.
You need to go to AA meetings and work the program.. get a sponsor.. if you’re really serious about not drinking..!! Turn your life over to God..and ask Him to give you strength.. but you have to really want to stop..
You can do it but you have to set yourself up for success where there's immediate and uncomfortable consequences. If you have friends that are okay with you getting high, they're not great friends and they have to go. Nothing against them but if you want change you have to have yourself surrounded with that safety net of only support and respect for your cause. If you have a job environment that lends itself to being high, start looking for a new gig.
Tomorrow could be chapter 2 for you. Up to you. I think you can do it but it takes some up front extreme discomfort for long term comfort and joy.
Nonsense, you don't have to hand your life over to god to live a happy and healthy life. Yes, goto AA. No don't buy it all. It's the people you meet, not their faith.
Faith is not something you can acquire on your own, but it's even easier than that! You can simply ask for faith! Faith! Hahahaha! I said it again! <3
Exactly.
Work the program, make solid sober friends that you can call that care about you and know where you're coming from.
That other nonsense is getting people killed.
I was in and out of meetings for about 40 yrs. Finally I somehow gave the meetings long enough to actually work for me. Pretty sure my higher power had a lot to do with it. Wish I would have gotten that little suggestion, keep coming back a long time ago. Please don't give up, I'm sure grateful I didn't!
I agree, it’s the fellowship that makes it work for me.
That was a lot to go through! Thank God you made it!
