I have ten grandkids… I have to visit all over. I pray and FaceTime with them a lot! They’re my world and I’ve created a network close to where each of them live! Sometimes I stay with women I have met in this process in order to be able to see my grandkids more often instead of using hotels in spending money :pray:t2:

I’m 9 months and few days sober. Just trying to stay sober the pain of kids moving so far away just hurts so bad. Thank you for your reply Gob Bless.

The booze won’t make it better. If you’ve gone through detox, imagine that pain and decide if you want to go through it again. You want to be sober for their visits, right?

Well, welcome. Stay in the day. Suggest you try not to project. Long way off. What ever you do don’t set yourself up to use. Stay positive.

Good Morning Christina. No grandchildren yet, but a recent empty nester. When my baby left the house last year, it was a difficult transition. The thought of being empty nester festered on me after my first child went off to college, and my daughter was 3 years behind him. Having 3 years to plan didn’t make it any easier. In fact, I spent those 3 years worrying about it. The reality is that this separation has forced me to grow. It’s given me more time to work on myself, my marriage, and my recovery. My children have benefited as well. There’s always a positive side to these life changes. We don’t see the right away, because of fear and the anxiety of change. You will have a new freedom to do some things you haven’t been able to do before. The universe knows what it’s doing. Trust that it’s going to be an opportunity for everyone to grow. As was said above, FaceTime will help keep you in their lives, and visits will be special. Continue to work your program of recovery, and have faith in the master plan.

Fear is normal.
Just remember that any idea of taking a drink now or in the future is a big fat lie that your head is telling you. Play the scene all the way forward. You might feel good for a short period of time but when it's all over with you will be right back where you are right now, having to start all over, dealing with all the challenges that you are dealing with right now.

The better choice is don't pick up the first drink, go to meetings and pray. Get active, volunteer to help at treatment centers or AA meetings. We have to give it away in order to keep it.

Hang out with people who have been sober much longer than you.

Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.
