Hi, I’m really needing to quit drinking. Today I decided to do that.

Last night I got drunk and ended up going to an after hours instead of going home with my partner. I’m just like done making decisions that don’t align with the life I want for myself and my future kids.

I took a couple surveys and not surprisingly I definitely have a problem with alcohol. I used to drink anywhere from 4-7 days a week having at least 2 beverages each day but more typically about 4-6, with weekly consuming ten drinks in a setting on the weekends. With my normal drinking, while I can “control” it and still make good decisions, the choice to drink pretty much daily does not align with how I see my life.

Excited to connect with people!

You're welcome and congratulations for taking the best and most difficult decision of your life, we are all a family here. I need you to report your progress level tomorrow, I'm pretty sure you're tougher than your addiction.

Thanks! I definitely am  I’ll be checking in. I think it will be an interesting adjustment.

Congratulations on your decision! I was in your shoes the first time I decided to get sober. I beg you to stick with it. Once we feel like we have it under “control” , the disease rears its ugly head again. Alcohol is not our friend lol. Welcome!

You can do this Rachel! Life clear headed, and bright eyed is so much nicer. Get that addiction monkey off your back. Be strong, be confident. Picture yourself as you want to be. Keep that picture in focus and work towards that. One hour, one day at a time.

Rachel ... don't fool yourself. If you're here ... control is an illusion. Everyone here thought they could control it. I was sure I could before my first drink of the day. 10 shots later it didn't look that way. Don't ever believe that lie. If you're here you've already admitted you can't control it.

I’m here to be alcohol free. I’m not trying to fool myself and I’d appreciate it if you didn’t try to make assumptions about me. If this platform works under the assumption that people need to be hiding booze and taking multiple shots regularly before they choose to make a lifestyle change maybe you’re right and this isn’t the right community for me.

Well, you have taken my encouragement completely the wrong way. I'm not making any assumptions about you. I'm speaking from experience and knowing hundreds of people like us. We have all thought we can control it. We all want to be alcohol free. That's why we're here. Part of getting there is knowing the deceptions that sneak into All our lives. Good luck with your sobriety.

It wasn’t encouraging it was patronizing. Your experience is not everyone’s.

My moms an alcoholic and while I have not personally progressed, I’m high risk and am choosing a different lifestyle after identifying unhealthy behaviors.

Good luck to you as well.

Being honest with yourself and your situation is the first step. We begin our recovery by asking for help.

Well Rachel glad you reached out on here. Scary thought but the only thing you have to change is everything. Including who you hang out with. Find some sober lady friends and hang out with them. Talk and let your true feelings out to them. If your like me you will find out it sucks to feel the feelings that we used to numb with alcohol. Alcohol is just part of the problem. Work on yourself and enjoy life. Do more of a hobby or whatever makes you happy. You will learn not to even think about drinking. Good luck. Let’s stay in touch. We can do what I can’t do alone. Remember your never alone positive reinforcement is a phone call or a message on here away!

It will progressively increase with time.

Stopping is Very Good Decision.
