Hi, I need to get my mind right. Glad to

Hi, I need to get my mind right. Glad to be sober but had a bad experience with a sponser. Still messed up about it. Been going to some meetings again but I need to do a lot more. Just needed to say it. That’s all

There are some new people. Always use your intelligence, logical thinking to improve yourself.

You can self sponsor too.

Well, I needed to know how the Steps work for one, and we never did any. I was going to 5 meetings a week at one point and They truly helped. But I needed to work these steps. I also needed to get a second job because I got behind on my bills. I really didn’t want to, but I had to. She told me that I wasn’t being willing to do anything to stay sober because it limited my times to do meetings. I was sad about that but you do what you need to do imo. Part of being an adult is being responsible. So I’m working on the mess I made. The meeting she liked didnt want to remain being hybrid with in-person and Zoom combined. So I couldn’t go to that one any more. The final straw was because I was happy that the are making the Big Book gender neutral without changing the content. They decided to do that at a big conference in NYC a couple of months ago. I was really happy that it would make it feel more inclusive and she blew up at me. Said she thought I should reconsider whether AA was right for me. I had known her for a long time, and that really hurt. So, here I am. I think I found a meeting I like. Its a big book meeting and it’s online, and I feel really comfortable. Now I need to find a new sponsor.

She believes that in person meetings hold you accountable and that if you are on zoom you are hiding your face- or can. I get it, but why throw the baby iut with the bathwater? We had to do it for Covid. But it helped a ton of people too. I see it as an added tool and she just doesn’t. She sat on intergroup also and they banned zoom for newcomer meetings too. I just think it’s narrow. I sure didn’t expect to hear her say I didn’t fit or that I wasn’t serious.

So I’m ok. And I’m still sober. I don’t have to take her opinions and wear them. I know I’m serious and being sober and finding a different path through AA does not invalidate my sobriety. I’m still proud of myself. I am still leaning on my higher power. I’m ok.

I haven't got a sponsor yet I will take advice from people but I will not be told what to do I make my own decisions I decided to get sober A sponsor's like a good friend but if they give you advice that makes you get behind on your bills or Make bad decisions You probably need to put them in their place

Wow that Krazy I’m no we’re near being a sponsor but In due time life is being plan for me not my plans but GOD but I know one thing for sure she ficking worng but there always 3 side to any story you’re the other and the true not saying ur liying I just like to try to understand everyone as much as I can but still she worng Fick that only because if she really a sponsor she shloud know that what work for her dosent mean it will work for u it’s ur problem ur Progam not her so u did what u should of. Im just sorry that happen but one thing u can be happy about all of this was the fact she help u out by getting u the help u needed so let’s say it AA where she at wasnt for u sorry to say it but that mean have been the only thing she was right about lol anyhow 12 steps are important and I don’t know how far or long u been taking care of ur responsibilities for ur actions and mess u made. But before u rush into something else (wwfm) what work for me is doing a step a year for now and that whenever I start it cuz right now I’m still working on a book and I can’t spell right and ADD/ADHD but I GOD get me up elry to get my work in and this is just 3/4 of what I do in a day besides my Faimly so what I’m trying to just say is don’t let ur addiction get the rush ur use to because it can rush u back to what ur life use to be if u run out of things to do in ur recovery ❤️‍🩹

Something I’ve found with sponsors is they really are almost always right. Sometimes when you have no idea where they are going with something, they bring it all the way around and completely change the way you think. Also, a good sponsor doesn’t have time for someone who wants to self sponsor. They can spend their time on people who want help. My sponsor will tell me that $hit right to my face and I love him for it.

This is disturbing to me. Sponsors are just ex addicts/alcoholics. They are not gods. According to what the OP described, it sounded like an inflexible situation for no reason at all. Good on her for knowing when to draw the line.

I didn’t expect her to be a god. I expected some guidance when I asked for it though. Or for her to be honest if she didn’t want to do it. Btw, I drew the line. I did because you don’t tell someone they don’t fit in AA - especially when they have tried as hard as I did. She doesn’t like anything but women’s meetings, in person and hates zoom. She also rents a room by choice. I have responsibilites. She didn’t respect that. She could have at least apologized.

Oh no hun, my comment was to the guy insinuating that your sponser was somehow in the right. I totally get you!!
