Hi. I'm new here and just want to share. Life

Hi. I'm new here and just want to share. Life looks completely than it did a few years ago. There are days that I want to shout with joy from the roof tops, because I've seen that it's possible to bounce back from what seems like the most hopeless, dark, broken place. But then there are days that I look at all of the messes I made that still need cleaning up... and I get a little discouraged and overwhelmed.

My sober journey has been a tad lonely. I'm not close with my family, and while my non sober friends supported my decision, but we've unsurprisingly lost touch since. Meetings aren't my thing. Tried a few but for whatever reason, it wasn't it for me. An awesome therapist who I started seeing right after I quit drinking has cheered me on, and I've made a couple of new friends through work who know I don't drink, but have no idea where I came from or any of life's messes I'm still working through. On a day like today, when the filth is peaking through everywhere and I feel totally stuck, that loneliness (and a bit of imposter syndrome) really sinks in.

It's been almost two years since I kinda started life over, and I couldn't be happier that it happened. I'm just struggling to connect with people who don't know the life I left behind. I'd love to make some sober friends and maybe chat if anyone feels like sharing or connecting?

Meg, welcome to Loosid. This is a beautiful place to share our experiences and to meet wonderful people with similarities. I can relate to what you are going through. I don’t have a therapist(yet). I’ve been working the AA program really hard the last couple of months. The spiritual experience I have encountered in the in the last year has been profoundly beautiful.
My past was messy as well. I’ve been cleaning it up slowly. It does get overwhelming at times. I have a few tools that helps keep my spiritual journey going. If you ever want to chat, I’m here. Keep your head up. Stay sober my friend.

That’s super rad keep the motivation going it no best feeling I too, was bad in alcohol it drowned away so much pain caused so much pain but now sober seeing people I love still drink still try to drown out the pain and sadness they have with drinking.. just keeps me going keeps me not to drink I can’t picture or see myself ever drinking again.

The loneliness you feel from time to time it happens but knw you are not alone pushing through something that was way worse when doing so, leaving it behind was my best thing doing and I’m sure it was for yourself..

Congrats on the sobriety rooting for ya keep on pushing!!

Hi Meg,

Sorry to hear that. I can identify with you on several levels. I began drinking problematically when my wife left me. Drinking filled my void of loneliness.

I'm always hear to chat. Keep up the good work and don't look back!

Just concentrate on staying sober. You can deal with the messes when you get that far into the steps. There is a reason we do them in order. Also, it gets much better!
