I was alone for most holidays when I lived in a different state. Now I'm back with family, but I still feel alone. Everyone in my family celebrates Christmas. I hate it because it's all a lie built on stolen traditions. This year, it feels like an obligation to get gifts for them. Seems like a waste of money. I could be saving up that money for a car. Or for an apartment.
Sounds like smart thinking to me!!
Have you tried alanon? One thing I know about myself is that I have no control over my sonās addiction. Itās so hard when as a mom weāre supposed to be there for our kids⦠Iāve finally accepted that I have no control - itās something I cannot change - and I give it to my higher power and his⦠heās 27 and still using but he has a roof over his head today. Not mine, but in another town and itās ok with me today. I saw him last week and gave him some presents- things he canāt sell like he did last year and Iām good
. He knows I love him. Heās 27. Feel free to reach out. Itās been a journey!
I'm alone. And have been alone the past 3 years. Thats a big trigger for me. More so then being around drunk relatives which is what it would be if I was actually invited to family events. So today I did meetings and meetings after the meetings and slept alot. Does anyone else have any other advice
Watching my sister in law act like a sloppy mess helps me out tremendously
You are blessed to have family...enjoy your holidays
I can relate. I'm alone with the choices that got me here. But at least we're clean and sober. Hopefully, the subsequent choices are better from this point onward.
Damm bro. You gotta call at least 5 people in recovery A DAY? Keep coming back. It gets easier if you have program.
Great tips! Family is a trigger for me and being back in my hometown. Pausing, serenity prayer, calling sponsor or another person in my network, praying to my Higher Power, zoom meetings, and reading from the big book or the 12 and 12 all helped me over the holidays!
I prayed two times in the morning,
I prayed two times at night,
I prayed two times in the afternoon,
It makes me feel all right.
I prayed two times in time of peace,
And two in time of war.
I prayed two times before I prayed two times,
And then I prayed two times more.
Speed up to the part where your alone feeling sick hanging onto the toilet
Hi m j it's Greg how are you doing we got a lot of snow
Iām case Valentineās Day is a holiday that triggers people, if youāre feeling lonely or unloved, I find that doing service, volunteering with people, animals, or nature really helps. I reach out when Iām at meetings to ask how other people are doing- try to share something helpful. I write gratitude lists, call and text sober people, meditate daily. I have been sober long enough that itās normal for me, I donāt think about drinking often, but I do get depressed and anxious and utilize lots of tools. Therapy and positive books are great too. And exercise!! Yoga, walks outside, and Crossfit are the best for me personally. Find your happiness and share it!
Have a plan to leave if you get overwhelmed at get togethers. Drive yourself, and if you want to leave just tell people you had a long day and youāre tired.
Yes, Iām divorced and when I donāt have my kids Iām scared, lonely and feel worthless which at times drives me to drink. Iāve always been really good or so bad.
I just want to be good in my decision when Iām solo- maybe itās in my head but the loneliness of not being with my kids drives me nuts- lord help me plz
