Holidays and family gatherings are hard for me…I don’t even know why? Always had to numb myself a bit to get through it. I think I experience feelings of inferiority or lack of self esteem or like I am just “not like” everyone and don’t fit in. Trying to have a proactive game plan for this week….I actually decided to work more hours to “get away” from it all….And telling myself to take just one day at a time… or maybe even 1 hour at a time….and this year going to LEAN IN to my discomfort and try to understand it……
Hi Gretchen! Thanks for sharing all you have going on. Holidays can be really hard. “Just one day at a time…or maybe even 1 hour at a time” is always a good approach. I’m even a one minute or one second at a time guy sometimes
! Sounds like you’re doing all the right things so keep on keeping on. And Easy Does It!
Holidays are a difficult time in early sobriety. I try and concentrate on what I am celebrating. The meaning of it. I learned to think of celebrating in a different way. Gratitude for what I do have instead of dwelling on what I don’t have. Good job realizing you can be outside your comfort zone and feel your feelings. I’m even grateful for my negative feelings today because I know I don’t have to numb them anymore. You can do this. It gets easier.
Hello again Gretchen, Hoping today is a pleasant and relaxing time with family. Hang in there! You’re doing great! Happy Thanksgiving!!
