Holistic approach to sobriety

Are there any recommendations for programs, books, meetings, etc. that have a more “spiritual” or holistic approach to them? I wasn’t raised in a religious family, so it doesn’t make me the most comfortable having people say “I need to look to god for forgiveness” or something of the sort. I’m completely open to the idea of all of that because I do keep it in mind somewhat so it’s not like I’m opposed to it, but I feel it would get through to me better if it didn’t have to always be about God, my sins, etc…

I think (correct me if I am wrong) AA is spiritual. I don't recall going to a meeting and hearing anyone say anything about reaching for God. More so, "A higher power." Your higher power can be anything.

I hear ya on the religious leanings of AA. It is straight out of the Bible just worded differently. Don’t get me wrong, the principals, ideas and messages solid and sound and are a good way to live your life…like do unto others, don’t judge, serve, etc. I am not a “religious” person but am somewhat “spiritual” AA helped me a lot. Most members don’t push you on god but I was never able to complete all 12 steps because of it, but enough I feel. I don’t do AA in my recovery now, I do my own thing but I do feel that without the time I spent in AA in the beginning I would not be where I am today! Hope that helps, I haven’t gone back and read it to see if it even makes sense. Lol!… oh, and years ago I found a Native American Indian AA group and they tweeked it to be Spiritual instead of religious and it was pretty cool going to those!! Good luck meja!:v:t3:&:blue_heart:

YOGA!! I know it sounds so cliche but it has saved me more than once. Sound bathing is amazing too. Meditation. I actually loved it so much I got certified in 2019 during my longest stint of sobriety. Unfortunately I have backslid a time or two since and I really need to get back into it. Find a good class or studio u enjoy. I live in Eastern KY the Bible Belt of the world so I get it. If we have yoga here they have it anywhere.

The buying into the concept of religion never appealed to me. A higher power of my understanding got through to me. I like to think of AA (12 steps) as spirituality 101. I've built my own spiritual practice around a higher power of my understanding, through working the steps. I practice meditations/yoga, I believe in Chakras and the power of crystals/essential oils/incense and believe in some Christian/Buddist/Taoist beliefs and the more I learn the broader things get. The beauty is, what ever my concept, that's enough to build a spiritual life around.

Have you looked into Dharma or SMART recovery for a couple other options of programs?
