Holy crow you guys....had our restaurant Christmas party last night

Holy crow you guys....had our restaurant Christmas party last night and it was originally on a boat, and due to weather they moved it to a dive bar. I live in northern florida, crappy rain and wind. Everyone was drinking, including my husband. Open bar from 5 to 7. When I say that was the absolute biggest challenge I've ever had, I'm not kidding. I'm 47 days sober and in all honesty I had a horrible time. Don't come at me with the "your choice....etc" my husband is a kitchen manager and we needed to make an appearance. I'm just asking for some reassurance. It was super hard. Wooooof

Ok I relapsed once after 39 days once because I got (over) confident enough to hang in a bar for an hour. I was so proud that I didn’t drink, so I rewarded myself by drinking the next day. I’m telling you this, so that you will be hyper aware. Your brain could be squirming in ways that will surprise you after an experience like that. Call and talk those things out with your sponsor or folks from your group.

Yea we spent a solid 3 or 4 hours there. I had my own drinks with me so I was busy in that sense. I know for a fact that I can't just drink one drink or take one shot and stop after that, so rewarding myself by doing that will bring me right down the ranbits hole. I stashed the money I would have spent on tips and then the insane shots and additional drinks after the open bar and am putting it towards a new bag or something. I know it sounds silly but I just know once I jump and have a drink there's no turning back

Yeah I have proven it. lol I was in rehab two weeks after that first drink. That was my last relapse. There were others before it. They always started with the innocent first little drink. It doesn’t sound even a little silly to me.

This is my second or third or maybe the hundredth time I've tried to stop but for some reason this one's really been meant to be. Cold turkey. Always had those triggers at work, or the people who "accidently" ordered 2 shots or 2ont drink alone, so you're like ok well sure....nope. so this time, the fact that I'm at a dive bar, sober, for that many hours is insane to me

I am assuming that you are not attending AA. I’m just making that assumption because you sound like you might be surprised how much your story is the same as others. If that is the case, you should know that it really helps to work through this stuff with fellow alcoholics. And I don’t want to diagnose you on that. You diagnose yourself. It really does make it easier and you meet really cool people.

I am not attending AA. I have many meetings g options and such, it's just not my thing. I live in a small town and as much as I'd like to think and know it has to be anonymous, I don't have a good feeling about it here. That's why I got this app. I am going to therapy, and my therapist suggested since I won't attend meetings, that I find an app for support and it seems to work so far!

Totally cool, but if it starts to baffle you keep it in mind. I’m a big AA guy and don’t hide that on here. lol Like if you want to know more, you can always message me. I don’t get commission.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I just want to help people, because I went through he11 and someone helped me. I owe A LOT.

Same Jacquie! I have done AA before, but too scared to do it in my little town that I live in now. Lots of people have suggested online meetings. Let me know if you want to chat or go to an online AA with me sometime. I am not new to trying to get sober, but new to this app. Really want to make it stick. Really terrified, too.
