honest question: what are your thoughts on being “California sober?” Meaning only smoking

I am 4 days off alcohol but have spent most of my time high, but honestly the high doesn’t even feel the same way it used to…
It isn't sobriety for me. I'm still reaching for an external mind altering substance if I do that. Sobriety is about healthy coping mechanisms that don't involve altering my mind. Unless I have cancer and need it to stave off nausea from chemo, I'm not going there. Best of luck.
I love smoking weed. I’m not a casual smoker, and I smoke until I’m a zombie…so that wouldn’t work for me lol. Based on my past experiences, I wouldn’t recommend it. I believe in a spiritual solution. So far it’s been working for 198 one day at a times in a row.. Again this is just my opinion, but my guess is that smoking weed is not a good idea for a great majority for us in recovery. Ultimately it’s your journey. This topic can be, and has been debated at nauseam. You will here strong opinions on both sides. Regardless of how you go forward, I absolutely wish you peace and serenity brother

It sounds like changing one addiction for another. Also known as the marijuana maintenance program.
That's exactly what it is!! I had a counselor in rehab that used to tell us, "All you're doing is switching seats on the Titanic! That ship is still going down!!"
Vic, don't kid yourself Man! Like Maia said...anything mind altering isn't sober!! I from Cali and I really hate this has become a thing! You can't have your cake and eat it too and you definitely won't get anything out of the steps if your stoned! JS!
Unfortunately studies have shown that smoking or use of any drugs/substances that cause a surge in dopamine can cause relapse and lower inhibition
I think it’s a shame that we can’t search posts because this topic comes up often and there have been some really insightful answers in the past.
Weed is not for me. It does not work with my program of sobriety.
If it works for you, have at it. People have used it medicinally forever for a wide range of ailments (and recreation).
The people who ask this question, historically, have been cannabis users, and have gotten very defensive over people who do not consider using weed as sober. To that I say, it’s your life. It’s your sobriety. It’s your decision.
Being smoked up is as big of a waste of time as being wasted on anything else. I spend my time on worthwhile things now.
The science behind it will probably come out yrs down the road. Substituting 1 legal poison for another. Just my opinion.
Not sober. Another crutch.
The problem with California sober is it relies on a false belief that weed isn't addictive. So setting that aside, why do you feel the need to escape? Sobriety is dealing with life not deadening it.
Don’t do it.
If you want to get a huge laugh at a NA meeting, casually mentioned that marijuana is NOT a gateway drug. It might not be for normies, but addicts know what it does for our allergic reaction. It’s only a short matter of time before you’re also doing your DOC.
Not recommended……..
Do it, alcohol is far more destructive. I've been sober for 4 years as of January 10th , and smoked weed the whole time Until a couple weeks now Due to my employment. My cravings for alcohol have grew immensely But I'm tuning it out. They need to legalize it federally. Being alcohol free is a new way of life And if it takes a little weed To stay off then do it, that is just my opinion . I am also 20 years off of meth as of December 22nd.
It didn’t work for me…I got sick after smoking weed and just weed. I have to be completely sober but it does work for some people. We all knows what works for us, if it works for you and doesn’t make your life unmanageable. (Do it)
