Honesty

The truth will set you free but first it will anger you.

Nobody wants to hear that they should change. Nobody wants to take an honest self-examination. It is far easier to point the finger at someone else than at ourselves. Nobody wants to hear "constructive advice" at first. Nobody wants to be told (or admit) that they are too angry, impatient, or in denial or egotistical. Nobody wants to discover that they have character issues. But until you have the openmindedness to face the truth, you won't have a chance to be free of the troubles caused by your issues.

TODO: Today, don't let a natural revulsion to criticism or change stop you from taking an honest self-examination. That examination may save your life. It will certainly help you avoid relapsing and keep you on track on your path to serenity.

It starts with being honest with yourself. Truth begets truth and having a bag of facts to work with makes every choice simpler.

I learned this through relapsing. I found that I would hit the bottle when I stopped being honest with myself and others, and started thinking that I was always the smartest guy in the room.
