How did you do it?

How did you get to your first day? I want to be sober, I want change, I'm just struggling to get to day one

Definitely go to an AA meeting. The support you get is pure gold. You don’t need to be sober to go to a meeting, just a desire to quit drinking. They even have virtual meetings!!

Addiction is giving up everything for one thing. Sobriety is giving up one thing for everything.

I reached out for help. I went to detox. I took the next right step. Then the next and the next.

When you wake up tomorrow, here's what you do: clear everything out. Every bottle, every bit of it, gone. Don't sip on it, don't think about saving some "just in case." Throw it away. Dump it out so you can't go get it later.
Avoid everybody who is using right now. Everybody! This isn't the time to test your willpower around people who aren't trying to change. You can rebuild those relationships later, if it's even worth it.
If you have to stay inside all day and do nothing, do that. Sleep if you need to. Boring and sober beats anything and using.
Don't make excuses. Don't talk yourself into "just this once." BE STRONG, get it out of the house, and don't go back to the store. Go to SMART Recovery.org and find a meeting or five to listen to online. You don't even have to leave the house to get support and hang out with people who will encourage you and help you, if you want the help.

If you are able to get outside even if it’s just for a short amount of time nature and the :sunny: helps me. The smart recovery class is a great program as well they have it Tuesdays 12-1pm at the recovery center if you can get a ride there. Creating a routine is very helpful for anyone no matter recovery or not. You got this  and remember to breathe today is a new day fresh start!

I suggest that you ask for help from someone who is sober to stay sober.

The fact that you want it means it will happen you just have to want it a little more you will get there just keep that want and turn it into try I have faith in you

How did I do it? One day at a time. It all started back in 1988 and I'm still doing it one day at a time .

I just finished IOP after 7 years this week. It’s possible. I added you. Ask me anything I’m an open book

Me? I joined Loosid and focused on half hour chunks. I stayed dry for 20 minutes at a time. As I connected with people here that 30 minutes turned into 1 hour chunks. After about a day and a half I was then able to count days as opposed to minutes or hours.

Of course I was coming off of a 3-4 day bender so being sick helped for the first half a day. Day 2.5 I went to my first meeting and connecting with people there made all the difference.
I wouldn’t phrase it as though “I did it” but rather that I’m doing it. What I did those first few hours of seeking sobriety I do repeatedly.
