How do I find other people in recovery in my area without going to AA
Go to AA. Find a group you like and make that your home group. Friends will be there.
I was scared to start AA but I went anyways. I took my boyfriend with me to my first one ( it was an open group) and it helped a lot but then I started to go alone. It feels intimidating to go at first but the amount of support you gain when you open up is really incredible. I actually look forward to going now.
Hi Mary, there are lots of alternative programs to AA: The Luckiest Club, Tempest, SMART Recovery, Recovery Dharma, Refuge Recovery, The Sober Faction, LifeRing Secular Recovery, Women for Sobriety. Recovery support groups like the above are the easiest way to meet other people living a sober lifestyle, and they all offer something a little different, so do some research to figure out which will be a best fit for you.
Depending on your area, AA might be your only option. Why the resistance? It’s not scary. Just a bunch of nice people that have gone through what you have. If you want to make connections with people, you can’t avoid people.
I have been going to meetings for years .and would never give it up.aa for life!! Aa
