How do I get set up with someone to finally get medicated for my anxiety instead of drinking away my feelings? What is the difference between psychologist, psychiatrist, therapist & counselor?
Psychiatrist does meds - psychologist has a PhD and is the best resource for counseling- usually people have both - I do - med maintenance is as important as therapy
As an fyi…Psychiatrist typically requires a referral from your primary health care provider. Reach out to primary, they can refer you to psychiatrist or psychiatry nurse practitioner…either or can prescribe the meds you need.
Thank you! I was wondering if I would need a referral.
There are cases where you won’t need one. Here’s where I found mine. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us
There are mental health Counselors that also do substance abuse. I personally keep mine separate though. I have an awesome psychiatric nurse practioner that does my meds but also therapy sessions. Hope you found someone!
