How do you all feel about california sober? if you

you are so right california sober is NOT sober hence why it’s called “california sober”

Why is it that a person can't use moderation and smoke once a week and keep a job because of drug testing but can drink in moderation and even show up with a hangover and it is acceptable.

I had a friend from rehab that insisted that weed wasn’t as bad of an idea as I was telling him. He said it was a fantastic way for him to replace alcohol and be able to avoid it. He died drunk on the kitchen floor a year after rehab. His organs shut down. I had talked to him a month before. So we can read all about the studies, but I know the reality of it. If you want to do it. Do it, but don’t try to talk other people into it.

never once wanted to talk people into it, but everyone recovers differently. I just wanted to know peoples opinion on it as I do it myself. I’m not hyping it up in anyway

it really just depends on your mindset, if you have the will power to only stick to weed on recovery more power to you some people can’t and will go back to what led them to recovery

I never smoked marijuana regularly (tried it a few times), but I have many addict friends who thought they could after getting clean and it led them back to their drug of choice. I personally don’t want to take a risk with any kind of mood altering substance because it’s a slippery slope. I think to each their own but most recovery programs want you to abstain from ALL substances for this reason. I personally would never encourage someone to be California sober but at the end of the day I’m only responsible for my choices and my recovery

No I know. It’s just Gary was getting a little combative with folks that were giving their opinion against it. Look Elianna, I think it’s a terrible idea and people absolutely relapse from it more than people who do just fine with it. That’s based on things I’ve heard in the rooms. Real stories. I’m really saying do what you want, but I’m trying to save you some pain in figuring it out. Work on getting sober instead of working an angle seems to be the best route.

For me I’ve been smoking weed since i was 14, oddly enough when i smoke weed i don’t want to drink just because when i am high from smoking I don’t get in the mood to drink at all, as someone who is recovering from alcohol i am continuing to smoke as it really does help me from wanting to drink, when i get the urge to drink i smoke and then no longer want to drink because i don’t enjoy drinking while smoking, it works for me! However i do catch myself smoking more because I am no longer drinking. As long as i’m not drinking i am happy with how my recovery is going.

Then it’s working.

Nice use of language and being an accuser.
There is not a combative bone in my body and have love for every soul on this great planet.
Your tattoos,
hunting and martial arts seem to show your addiction to an ego.
Thank You Shawn I for making me aware of you self centered narcissism.

Dear Shawn I
I'm not trying to talk anybody in to smoking weed.
I have never went to rehab but have been sober for years then slipped and I believe it was part of what got me to this point in my life.
I have saved
a man's life as an Able
Body Seaman when he fell 25 feet landing on his head as I was the first one on scene.
So trophies can be your thing saving and helping people are mine.
A please don't accuse people you don't have that right.

Some people live in a small box and the some look at a bigger picture.

If you can find the words please respond.
Thank You

Hmmmmm.

I didn't accuse anybody. If you have read I said ' trophys may be your thing" no judgement.
It's not luck but faith.

You can love people and not like what they do. Sometimes a person is put on this earth to show us wether it's good or bad.

Just like that, this turned into FB.:joy:

It is interesting to me how similarly all of the “California Sober” posts turn out.

The person posting has generally already made up their mind, and are looking for people to validate their decisions. The guise of an open minded conversation is false. It always gets heated. Both sides feel very strongly about their opinions. Nobody’s mind gets opened or changed. The examples are the same. “I know someone who relapsed and died” or “I know someone whose life was saved”.
The bottom line, for me, is that escaping my fears and trauma does not serve me. Learning how to be honest with myself and present in my journey has been the ultimate gift of my sobriety. But it’s my journey.
When I validated my drinking by pointing out that so and so drank more than me, it didn’t change the fact that I’m an alcoholic. When I compare myself to someone who is California sober it doesn’t make me a better alcoholic. I can only compare myself to me. And the me today is a lot better off than the me of a few years ago. So I do me, and you do you. I wish no pain or harm on anyone.
If people want what I have, and are willing to go to any means to attain it, I share with them what works for me.

For me posting this was to just see how recovering addicts viewed california sober as i am california sober. I’m not against anyone who’s against california sober. But i do not agree with people who are saying that being california sober will ultimately lead me back to my alcoholism or other peoples addictions. Smoking pot while being sober from Alcohol has helped me immensely as i was already a consumer of weed. I did not Substitute weed for alcohol and that seemed to be the misconception in these comments. I just didn’t stop smoking weed when i stopped drinking. I am not encouraging california sober in anyway. But i do not think that people who are need to be shamed for it. If it works for you it works for you. if it doesn’t it doesn’t. and it’s just that simple  Thank you for your input on it!!
