How do you all make friends being sober? I’m having a hard time with this
Go to lots of recovery meetings!!!
I went thru the same it’s not easy lol… I just started slowly befriending fellow AA’s.
Go to meetings
I go to a lot of meetings and find healthy women! It took a bit to find the healthy ones but you’ll start to see the difference
I also sent you a friend request if you ever want to chat!
Find a home group, check out different meetings. Share. You’re presence will be welcomed and appreciated
Finding new friends in sobriety takes time. You could try getting involved in your areas of interest. It can be a challenge sometimes. Everybody and their mother seems to drink these days.
I sent you a friend request.
I live all the way up in Northern Ohio. I come through Lexington every week. I'm a car hauler. I just dropped a vehicle off yesterday morning at Don Jacobs BMW off Nicholasville Road.
I have a friend of mine who has been a nurse for many years. I think she does a lot of traveling in her job. I think she used to live in Georgetown but nowadays probably closer to LaGrange. I'm not sure.
I saw your home location, so I just thought I would mention all that. I've never been to meetings in Lexington Kentucky.
I would start with finding a hobby you enjoy. The people will similar interest will come along with it soon after.
This. I have made unbelievable friendships in recovery. Recovering addicts have my back, and then some!
No doubt, I never knew what true friendship was until my sobriety tribe. Huge blessing of recovery
Right??
Not all do make new friends.
Oh that would be awesome if you are ever through here again! And I also am a nurse as well and was doing travel nursing but now currently doing a local contract here in Lexington. So yeah def would like to meet new people
When I first got sober I honestly had no idea what I even liked to do. I couldn’t remember enjoying anything in and of itself. I enjoyed going out to eat (drinking), sporting events (drinking), travel (drinking) playing games (drinking), dating (drinking) etc.
So someone recommended to me that I travel back in time to before I had my first drink. What did I like? Swimming, fishing, baseball, bicycling, hiking, camping, etc. and I just went and did those things. And most of them I still enjoyed. And I met other people who enjoyed them. And I learned that there are people who just don’t drink. And it was this wild realization.
When everything we do focuses around drinking, the people we meet are all drinkers. When we are surrounded by drinkers, it makes us feel like we are normal, and that everyone is like us. These things are not true. There’s a big beautiful world out there waiting for you to make your mark on it. But you’ll have to let go of the old stuff to make room for all the growth ahead.
