How do you find connections (outside of AA) I am

How do you find connections (outside of AA) I am an introvert and given my past trauma it’s hard for me to trust others. Looking for ways I can start to try to make some connections- other than my small circle - really would love to find a connection for those harder days I need to talk through stuff.

There are sober events to try out, check em out online or in various apps. ThePhoenix is one that has a growing base. Just try not to hype up your expectations, go into them with an open mind and you’ll be alright.

Promise Ten: Fear of people and economic insecurity will leave us

Sometimes quickly sometimes slowly, but if you work the steps the promises do come true.

Hey Rebecca, I am very much so the same way. I’m pretty isolated, going at this alone + definitely know what it feels like to have to verbally process difficult days but not have a “space”.

I don’t have any recommendations but you are more than welcome to add + reach out to me if you ever need an ear.

I’m also in the same boat, if you ever need some online companionship or just want to talk feel free to reach out. We can do this :sparkling_heart:

Welp, you just did the outside AA connection thing. Lots of positive folk here to latch onto. Good luck. Hope you get plugged into something.

Yeah, that's all fine and dandy working the steps, but for an introvert (like myself), it's not a fear of people. Being introverted and fearing people are 2 totally different things. Quoting AA promises is not the answer.

Outside aa I suggest right here. I come here to vent when I can. And if anybody that needs to talk I like to listen and maybe give advice or really just my experience and how I deal with things. I tend to think that I’m intimidating to others or feel like people get the wrong message from me so I usually don’t like to engage a lot in meetings. But if you or anybody else needs to talk you are all welcome to add me and message me

Well the advise I gave wasn’t directed at you. I know several people who are introverted and for them, it all stems from mistrust and fear. The alcohol was the lubricant used to break out of their “introvert shell”. That’s why I did quote the 10th promise. If it does t work for you oh well. It may work for someone else who needed to hear it.

I get where you're coming from, meetings mostly aren't my bag, but Tim wasn't saying it's the only way and definitely wasn't being rude or anything.

Just remember we're not the only people on here, and others benefit greatly from working the steps including that one, and quite possibly even the OP who asked the question.

Okay, I'm rambling now. Have a nice evening!

I have a community online, She Recovers, that hosts retreats several times a year where i have met some fabulous, supportive women. Not much connection tho, as far as solid IRL day to day friendships Alot of my IRL friends do not drink or drink minimally so that helps.

To be clear, She Recovers does much more than retreats. It’s a solid, online support group for women trying to get/stay sober. Some members do AA, others different modalities. Anyone can join.

Thanks all! Thank you to those that offered to let me reach out directly. I respect those working the steps and aa as everyone’s recovery looks different. I appreciate all of you.

That was not an easy thing to do either. Lol, small milestone.

I wonder how your inner relationship with self is going? I have found myself in a similar place, and when I look deeply, I have discovered that I am missing a deep loving relationship with self. When I work to cultivate that, being alone is actually pleasurable and fulfilling. Somehow then, ironically, my ability to relate to, and share with others, is transformed.

Very good points. I’m actually in a really good place as far as self confidence and self love, and I do enjoy my alone time. I’m just ready to reach out to find some solid people to surround myself with or at least communicate with. I divorced a very toxic and abusive person in a small town, and find it hard to trust those here. Lol, looking for a vault.

Connect with your local recovery community and look into a RECOVERY COACH. We are a good connection outside of the support groups. And we are connected with most all recovery organizations.
