How do you guys feel about taking pain medication when your Dr. Prescribes it? Usually I say no thank you and stick to Ibuprofen but I was in the Emergency room this week with excruciating pain and when they gave me pain meds I knew they would work and Ibuprofen wasn't cutting it. So I took the script but I asked him to only give me half as many as he was going to. They're gone and I feel fine but I'm curious about other people take on this. I've been sober almost 11 years. Could have been a risky move I guess

I am lucky I have someone at home who I can count on to monitor and limit them. I wouldn’t take them unless it was absolutely needed. Good call on asking for 1/2 of the number. I wasn’t into pills or opiates but I could see my demon looking for anyway to get a foot in the door.

That's definitely true about the demon. I was more concerned about wanting more. Or feeling sick after taking them and thinking I needed more. But they actually made me sick when I took them. I didn't like it at all

It's a tricky one. On one hand pain sucks, on the other addiction don't care if you aren't in pain. Many pain meds are highly addictive. I don't know if it is worth it. As long as you keep a doctor in the loop about addiction issues, you may be ok. Personally I don't have a problem with pain meds because they do nothing for me.

If I get a kidney stone and buckled over dying, give me a shot! Yet, if I’m in pain not life threatening, keep that dope away. Was sober for long time years back. Did interferon, pain went to bone. Anemic, couldn’t eat. Had a newborn to look after. Took Percocet. Was off to the races. Just one pill took me out. Won’t go down that slippery slope again. If it’s life threatening, understood to take pain meds. If not, endure that pain. That slippery slope not worth that pill.

No meds for me. I take loads of vitamins but I won’t even take baby aspirin
