How do you spend your weekends when you were newly sober? The evenings on the weekends are tough for me. Just looking for some tips on keeping sober in the evenings. Thanks!
Well, hope you getting plugged into a program and getting lots of numbers. Fellowshipping is a huge part of recovery. Letting others know the new you and having each other’s backs. Hope you can find others to depend on when these struggles come. Also, a higher power? Something or someone greater than you when alone. Helps. And welcome by the way. You sharing now is a huge step in the right direction. Keep sharing.
Thanks so much!
I went camping and spent it in nature next to a fire. Went to meetings, got together with my sponsor or others I met in AA and we had game nights, played poker, just hung out. It was a complete lifestyle change for me.
I’m trying to make my living amends by spending time with my family. After being a selfish alcoholic for so long, I feel I owe them a better me.
if you are alone, go for a long walk and try some new food then maybe a movie. you need to plan dates with yourself
Evenings can be tough for me too. I've actually made myself a list of activities to do if I'm feeling down/lonely so I can reference that when those feelings creep in. A zoom AA meeting is often a go to, or meditation/yoga, calling my sponsor or a friend, making myself a nice glass of herbal tea, journaling, reading, coloring. Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference in my mood.
Thank you! Talking with another member here about zoom meetings. That’s my goal this week-to join at least one meeting…nervous! But yes, i need to re-assess my “toolbox”, maybe add a few things!
I went to meetings and hung out with sober people. We’d go to dinner or lunch. Also would go to birthday night at the end of the month.
I am having the same problem. Everything fun to do seems to involve people drinking. Afternoons are hard as well. I've been trying to have a plan to keep busy everyday. Even if it's something simple like grocery shopping, getting a haircut or doing laundry. Anything to keep me busy.
