How to deal with emotional pain and trauma. Alcohol seems to be the only mental break I get. I'm tired of being self destructive with my disease. What are some things you guys do when you're in pain?
Read, take a bath, stretch, drink tea, spend time in my backyard hammock… spending time still and quiet
Getting plugged into a recovery program for support.
Those are all great suggestions. I need to create new stress reaction habits. Thank you for the ideas. I can do all of them except the hammock part lol just bc I'm in an apartment. Thanks again Robin
Yes I looked up AA meetings nearby today. There's actually an AA club less than 2 miles from my apartment. Thank you!
You and I are in the same boat
The programs help figure out how to deal with life on life’s terms. I won’t say pain isn’t still there, but we learn how to deal in a positive way, not the drinking destructive way our messes up brains are used to. Try meditation, walking, reading, cooking… anything to get your mind on something good.
Honestly , I cry, I try to let myself feel things, I have also been taking baths
That's the stuff right there!
Pick up the phone and call a friend…one that understands what you’re going through. Share at a meeting. Talking about it is the best way to give it less control over you!
"Anything to get your mind on something good" ~ I like that! It keep keeps it simple. Thank you Tim
Thanks for pointing that out. " Talking about it is the best way to give it less control over you"~
Thank you Kurt
