How to get sober? It took me years to realize I’m an alcoholic. It’s getting really bad to the point I’m making myself look like crazy women when I’m drunk, people who know me no I’m drunk but to the ones who don’t think I’m insane. I’m hurting everyone close to me. I have so many legal problems dwi’s, now dyfs involved in my life for the first time. I need help but I don’t want to go to rehab and leave my babies. What can I do? I always say I want to get sober and never make it past a week by the 7th day I’m back to being a crazy drunk who doesn’t know when to stop, until I wake up the next morning hating myself & I’ll last for another week. I want to change
Couple thoughts…1 - we aren’t good to anyone around us being drunk (babies included) and 2 - your desire to stop drinking is great. Stay the course and life will be better.
Division of youth and family services. Where I live they’re CPS.
Des I had all that. My kids weren’t allowed to visit due to a felony child endangerment case. I drank and lied through a CPS mandated outpatient rehab. I got fired from 2 jobs. I was in court for child support and custody in Texas and California. I was a complete and total disaster, filled with guilt and shame, but also filled with too much pride to admit that I couldn’t do it on my own.
But I finally went to a 12 step meeting. And another. And then got a sponsor. And read the book. And didn’t drink. And went to every meeting. And listened to what worked for other people. And then, 15 months worth of 1 days at a time later, I’m basically in the clear. I’m still in debt, but I cleaned up my shit. And I worked my program. And I lost the compulsion to be drunk all the time.
If you join a recovery program usually you can have visits or passes. Maybe you could get a relative or someone you trust to take care of your babies while you complete the program and still be able to see them during that time. Most of them let you work too so you would be able to pay someone as well. Just an idea. If you choose the right recovery program it would work wonders for you in my opinion. I currently live in one and am almost ready to graduate. It has changed my life around.
