How to stop the urge

Was 2 weeks sober and ended up drinking a bottle and a half of wine last night. Felt so bad I called into work. I’m so upset with myself… I feel mentally and physically drained and depressed.

Hi Taylor, do you have some sober people that you can reach out to in the moment that you are feeling the desire to drink. This has always helped me. If you would like to exchange numbers I would be happy to.

If you don’t buy it you won’t drink it. I stay sober with a support system based on 12 step fellowship traditions and friends that are also sober. A relapse isn’t evidence of failure but an opportunity to make sobriety a bigger priority in one’s life.

All it takes is the first drink. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, I was the same. We can’t just have one.

I was totally thinking this today! I love this idea. The gut wrenching anxiety was so bad I couldn’t move today but this is my homework tonight. Thank you :orange_heart:

No. Not really. Not someone truly sober who’s been for a long time or struggled. I need a someone forsure.

I need to tell my roommate this. She keeps wine here and it’s so tempting..

And no one gets that. Like I blackout everytime and that’s not who I want to be.

I have over three years of sobriety, and a lot of experience supporting women in early recovery. Add me as a friend and I will message you my number.

Most of us here get it, or are learning it. The sucky part is starting over with new friends who do get it. Best wishes, you can do it if you want to.

Taylor, I say this to a lot of folks. Google Chapter 3 of the Alcoholics Anonymous big book, if you haven’t already. The first three pages are the most important. For alcoholics relapse happens because we don’t believe that we are powerless over alcohol. Once we take the first drink we are without defense. The Docters Opinion is another good thing to Google. But I’m not diagnosing you read the above and you can diagnose yourself.

Alcoholism is a shitty disease. AA would likely benefit you.

Taylor! It’s going to be ok. Todays tip of the day rings big here…
For me the urges were removed when I completely gave myself to the AA program. Steps 1, 2, & 3 to be exact. These three steps removed the urges to drink, use meth, chew tobacco and caffeine for me very early on. To this day I don’t not want any of these substances in my body. I hope you too can find this beautiful program of AA in your heart. It’s a very simple solution to a killer problem.
Have a blessed night my friend.

Hi Taylor, I also very recently lapsed. It’s absolutely horrible. I had a therapist tell me to not let a lapse go to waste - learn as much as you can from it. I’m so glad you’re reaching out for support and sharing your story. Please give yourself grace. You deserve it.

Give yourself a break and love on yourself during these times when you most need it! Do something besides drink that makes you feel good ie pedicure, bubble tea always works for me, go to the movies by yourself enjoying yourself, or just have coffee with a close friend! Hope you feel better tomorrow and dust off try again love and prayers ❤‍🩹
