I went to a concert sober tonight and this is a huge step for me. I got a 21+ wristband just in case, but didn’t use it. Instead, I got a sparkling Liquid Death from the bar and left almost right after the show. It felt weird not stopping anywhere after the show. I almost went to In-N-Out but figured that would take too long. I missed my cat and wanted to get home ASAP to see him. So I challenged myself to walk into a grocery store and buy sparkling water and M&Ms… and I did it while not even really being tempted to buy booze instead. Same routine with healthy substitutes.
I really want to thank everyone here, but especially @Jen for checking in with me and helping me understand my triggers. I’ve slipped a few times since October 12th but making serious progress. Tonight was a huge accomplishment and makes me fill better about the setbacks I’ve had. The biggest difference between this try at sobriety and others is now I’m being honest about it with people who understand. It’s powerful to say these thoughts out loud and not swallow them and keep it a secret.
I came home sober and without alcohol. My cat was extra affectionate because he knows everything. I’m going to shower right after this post, go to bed, and wake up early to practice yoga. This is better than post-concert beers in the parking lot, easily. Maybe before, but not now.
It was also nice coming home to a clean house. I forgot that I cleaned so much before I left to work (I went to the concert straight after). I wouldn’t have done that if I were drinking.
Also, the concert was fantastic. The Lazy Eyes, check them out.
