I always joke with people “I’m an alcoholic” when referring to how much I drink. Being mostly sarcastic because I’m functional but maybe a little serious… I’ve never actually realized I think it’s a true statement. I actually thought I was having medical issues because my body was addicted to caffeine. Lord of sickness and fatigued body, even though I’m mostly healthy and exercise. I come from a family of alcoholics and I always say “I’m taking a break just so I know I can stop if I want to” last a random amount of time each time. Then, the other day I caught myself drinking an alcoholic drink that I didn’t even like or normal y drink just because it was in my house. In that moment, I decided I think I need to stop. That was Sunday night. Today is Wednesday. I slept for almost the first 24hrs or so…. But I’m feeling better today, and I can see some brightness in my face.

Can you stop drinking, once you've started? For me, that's the difference between being an alcoholic vs a heavy drinker. Many of us were quite functional. Actually, few people take me seriously when i say I'm an alcoholic, because i never "lost" anything or ended up in the hospital or gutter. You know yourself, and how you feel. You may truly not be an alcoholic. Or, you may be in denial. Good luck with whichever direction you end up in!

Thank you for that input. That’s an interesting perspective to evaluate myself.
