I am 3 weeks sober and have been feeling light

I am 3 weeks sober and have been feeling light headed, foggy and anxious all day. Just not myself. Is it possible this is from withdrawal still?

Hi Brooke. I am local to Indy. It never hurts to speak to a physician if you’re feeling ill. The physical adjustments can be trying for many in early sobriety.

There are many local meetings to help get you plugged into the local recovery community, if you haven’t already started exploring them.

I know when I first got sober I wanted to run out and fix everything outside of me. What I learned is that I had to stay sober and work on the underlying reasons why I picked up a drink (for me) to begin with. I didn’t have a problem with alcohol until I put it in my body, so how do I live without that obsession anymore?

The 12 steps, a sponsor, and staying plugged in with others in recovery has made all the difference for me.

We don’t like feelings especially being anxious and foggy. We don’t like them and we know the quick solution so we don’t have to feel anything. Our brains tell us if we use we will feel better. The only problem is once we start we can’t stop. Our brains know this and will try to have us come up with any excuse that somehow makes sense to us. I know I felt that way for months and then now because i am only doing the right thing in all my affairs I have no panic attacks and feel present. It takes time even though we feel we can rush it. We have to pay a price for our addiction and a price for our sobriety. Our sobriety isn’t a free thing as we got to work on it every day…
