I am 75yo female who relapsed after my husband died

I am 75yo female who relapsed after my husband died. Its hard to realize there is no one really "there" for you except your higher power. Can you find a sponsor at 75yo? Very discouraged

Hi Darlene, I’m so sorry for your loss. You are not alone, and you can find a sponsor at 75. We have a sweet woman in our home group that is/was in a similar situation to you. The grief was overwhelming and she struggled for several months. She must’ve picked up 5-10 white chips over a period of several months. We loved on her and encouraged her. She kept coming back. Last month she picked up her 90 day chip, and she just recently chaired a meeting. I have witnessed so many miracles in recovery. I only mentioned meetings because you said you were looking for a sponsor. If you are not opposed to AA, I suggest you find the strength to go. It’s not easy. However, if you can find the strength in you to show up, I believe you can find some peace and happiness in your life. Your late husband would want this for you, and you deserve it

You’re welcome Darlene. If you have trouble locating or getting to an AA meeting, there are zoom meetings as well. Also, there may be more help online for others in similar situations to yours. I’m going to look l, and let you know if I find something. The main thing is you’re going to have to show up for yourself ODAAT. Please don’t sit with all the by yourself. You are allowed to cry and feel like it’s too much. You’re just human. That alcohol will only make it worse. I know it and you know it

Oh my, you need to check out this website…. seniorsinsobriety.com

There’s a lot of information, including meetings. 75 isn’t too old at all. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! You’ve probably been helping others all your life. It’s time you ask for help.
