Thanks for sharing. I’m a recovering meth junkie. But I did coke and drank too I wasn’t picky there towards the end. It is hard to admit and it was hard facing people I knew from my hometown when I publicly started posting my sobriety journey on my facebook. I am sure everyone knew I mean they all watched the downward spiral so it’s not like I was really hiding anything. But knowing they probably knew and publicly telling them yea I’m recovery from a destructive and all encompassing meth addiction was a whole different ball of wax. My husband And I got clean off and on and then Quit quitting and got worse together for years. I finally left and have now been clean 18 months. He wasn’t so lucky. He died 12 days after I left. So it’s been a hard journey, but I can’t imagine doing it with another addict or dating anyone who still used. The behavior patterns and subconscious codependency is dangerous and honestly almost as hard to kick as the dope. But with the program, a higher power and a great sober circle like this one, I know you can do it. None of us got here overnight so take heart and keep on breathing, pausing and working the steps and talking.
Thank you so much for your comment. I tried meth once and, thank god I was never able to get my hands on it again, that’s all I’m gonna say!
But yea, I don’t know how I’m gonna do this if my fiancé doesn’t stay on board. I only use when he gets it. It’s really tough cause we’ve been thru so much and I know he wants to get clean. I love him too much to not put in my all. Also, if we broke it off, that would make being sober really difficult for me cause he is so important to me
Thanks for sharing Crack was my drug of choice too so don’t feel bad about using. Just stay focused and keep staying clean one day at a time. You deserve to give yourself a break!
We all suffer so we all use. Drug of choice is irrelevant as we are all very sick at one time (sometimes for a long, long time) and have cried out for help. I have never tried crack but I can promise you if it was put in front of me during my using days, I would have. It’s extremely courageous to expose yourself and can be very liberating as well. I hope you find some comfort and peace in your share. God is great and so are you! Our sober community is here to help
You are not alone I actually had to leave my relationship of 17 years and completely stop all contact !it seems he wanted to bring me further into his dark hole! Now I’m doing great have my own place, making a new life for myself and learning about who I am again. I was just as addicted to him as the drugs…
I'm an alcoholic 1 thing I learned is you have to take care of you. No body can do it for you, they can only help or not. You're in a tough spot. My prayers go out to you. Reach out anytime
Thank you very much for your share, this is very brave. On my day one someone offered me some advice after I shared. They told me I had to get sober without my partner. Otherwise we’d keep perpetuating relapse through our codependent dynamic. He was 100% right. It was hard to hear but necessary.
I encourage you to make some IRL sober connections in community. For me, that’s a powerful tool in my sobering. And it may be a tool to get you some space when he is using until you can figure out a better arrangement that isn’t harmful to you.
Wishing you equanimity as you count days.
Keep talking about it! You’re doing great
I hate to say this but you might have to leave him for yourself if he’s not on board
Thank you for saying everything you did. It takes guts to put it out there. You done good.
Honestly though this site has a lot of people to talk to. You raised a huge flag that no one can tell you how to deal with. I hope if you want it bad enough you do what it takes. But I’m always here to talk. By the way an addict is an addict. Doesn’t matter the substance, your good.
It is hard. Hard to have so many changes at once. And I agree with another comment that often we are just as addicted to our partner. And honestly that’s sometimes harder to kick. But only you and your higher power can know what’s right for you. The best thing to do is stay solid with your program and pray and be open to the answer when it comes❤️ you can do this whatever your next phase is as long as you keep reaching out and keep being honest with you and your higher power and a sponsor or this group, you are good!
Brave share. Way to put it out there.
