Do you know why you drank?
Because, you believed the lie your head was telling you; that this time, everything will be OK. But it wasn't, was it?

Next time, play the scene forward. It may feel good at first but you always end up right where you are now.

I have something for you to read.

Men and women drink essentially because they like the effect produced by alcohol. The sensation is so elusive that, while they admit it is injurious, they cannot after a time differentiate the true from the false. To them, their alcoholic life seems the only normal one. They are RESTLESS, IRRITABLE and DISCONTENTED unless they can again experience the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks—drinks which they see others taking with impunity. After they have succumbed to the desire again, as so many do, and the phenomenon of craving develops, they pass through the well-known stages of a spree, emerging remorseful, with a firm resolution not to drink again. This is repeated over and over, and unless this person can experience an entire psychic change there is very little hope of his or her recovery.”

Does this sound like you?

Day one or day 1001, it's the same. Take each as it comes, learn from the day before and work to be better today. Don't beat yourself up, we all stumble and fall.

Hello Michelle, don't get too down on yourself. The first day is easy your gung how. Then withdrawal hits hard. But it gets easier in time. Get plugged into a support group. You don't mention your doc. But it doesn't much matter they all stink. Lots of good people here. I know Alcohol and will talk to anyone anytime about my sobriety I'm sober 1 yr + 1 month. Reach out anytime

How did you do it?

I had to take a extreme measure. I asked my doctor for Antabuse. It will make u so sick if u drink on it. It's like my own little probation officer. It's worked, I even tried to have a drink on it and it put me on the floor for hours in pain. It's not for everyone but has got me past the 3 month mark.

How did you ask for it? I am afraid to ask my doctor. She knows my entire family.

I had one year sober on July fourth. Lots of prayers. Faith in Jesus and therapy. Wasn't easy but so worth it.

I don’t know if Antabuse will help, but I can hear the shame in your reply. Shame is very common, and for me it comes and goes depending on how I’m feeling. We have to remember that we are not bad people. Having an alcohol/drug addiction is a medical condition. We are sick, and need help. Asking for help takes courage and strength. It’s far from a weakness

I woke up hung over this morning, attended a meeting with a drink in my hand and here I am. Looking forward to a day I can be sober. Keep at it and start again.

I highly recommend the book Alcohol Explained. The audio version is only like 6 hours. It helped me to understand some things on how we got here and how the subconscious mind plays a roll.

yes

That is it, I am ashamed to ask for help.

I fell off the wagon over a week again. And I had a little over a month. It sucks but I’m gonna stay strong and stay sober. Slowly learning my triggers

That's been around forever. For most alcoholics they eventually just quit taking the Anabuse.

I have that feeling almost every single day
