I am grateful for the opportunity to return to school and one day help those that are still suffering from this disease.

That’s awesome, good for you!
Pay it forward!
I agree! I went back to school 2 years ago to become an LCDC. Now, all I have to do to graduate is the practicum, a semester long course where I experience what a counselor does. About 25 hours a week. Then, graduation with an Associate's degree in substance abuse/ mental illness counseling. Then, 4000 hours/ 2 years to 5 years as an LCDC intern. Then I can get off disability, where alcohol left me 3 years ago. I really enjoyed the classes; everything from nutrition to criminal defense! Good luck to you! Pay it forward!
