I am just going to be an elephant in the room and talk about myself, since I am the elephant in the room..still with me? I believe meetings and step work are useful tools and serve their purpose for a bunch of people in a healthy and prosocial manner. They are not the end all be all in recovery. They are not the only means to stay sober or clean. If it doesn't work for you as an individual because that is what you are, awesome you. Please don't feel shame, guilt or as a failure or that it is you that is the problem. These feelings are sometimes the reasons why we used or avoided the feelings of trauma in the first place. Not to put feelings into any person's mouth or to speak in a generalized statements that become cumbersome. I am just saying find what works best for you and if it's not aa, or any other A support group and the steps that is okay. Keep searching and finding your own way and path in whatever that looks like to you.. remember aa was started by a failed businessman and a proctologist. Yes the idea of helping one another is great, but shouldn't be the doctrine of recovery in regards to a blue book and suggestions because that is all they are suggestions. A book of possible ideas, but not a fluting my way or the highway that it has become monopolized and money making instead of actual care, compassion and consideration of conversation and dialogue with others that it could be.
