I am new to this platform. I am struggling with alcohol and the longest I was without a drink recently was 30 days. I am trying to prepare and reset the clock but I all I want is to have another drink right now.. I guess I have forgotten on how to start sobriety.

I’m here if you need a friend

Are you going to meetings?
Meeting makers make it.
When you get the urge to drink, play the scene forward.

You will feel relieved for a short time but it never lasts. When you wake up you realize you screwed up and accomplished nothing. Now you have to start over, carrying more guilt around.

Don't believe the lie; that this time it will be OK. Because it never is, is it?

Also, get some sweets. Sweets help curb the desire.

Thank you I have never been to a meeting and I am a bit of an introvert . I don’t know where to get started.

Down load the app “meeting guide” it gives the location and times of all the AA meetings based off your GPS. The first and hardest step is to walk in, sit down and introduce yourself. Face the uncomfortable notion of doing it and you will meet an entire community who not only will help, but genuinely WANT to help. Good luck

I too am an introvert. The people of Alcoholics Anonymous will welcome you with open arms. The newcomer is the most important person in the room. Here is a link whether you have Apple or Android that will help you find meetings. It's a great app

Thanks for the link. I am very uncomfortable talking to new people. Can I just stay quiet in first few meetings?

Meeting makers make meeting, but meetings are necessary to get connected to people who can help you when you need advice. Get a sponsor who can guide you through the steps. It’s connection with other people and a higher power that really makes the difference. It’s difficult to get connected to people being an introvert but you’ll have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, but it’s better than being uncomfortable with yourself because of bad decisions stemming from using alcohol as a coping mechanism. I hope you find your way.

That’s true … thank you

Welcome to the community! You can do this!

Thank you all

Hey  STAY busy is part of my advice. It is okay to be introverted! Find something you enjoy even if it's by yourself - get outside for a little bit and take it in. Ive learned from depression and alcoholism that we forget theres a whole world out there to breathe in.

The book This Naked Mind really changed things for me. Haven’t wanted a drink since. 6 months today.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. All you have to say is my name is Flo and I choose to pass or I choose to listen.

Actually just listening is probably the best program of action when you first go to meetings. Many people think that they have so much to offer when they come in but they really don't because they don't really know anything about staying sober.

So sitting down and listening is a great strategy.
