I am on day 2 sober and am having a really hard time
Great job staying clean! I remember those feelings. All I can promise you is if you stick with it, it will get easier. Get to a meeting. The fellowship will be a godsend. Good luck buddy.

Does the chaos or thought process ever get better
Yeah it all settles down. It just takes time. And it really takes a lot of effort on your part also. I swear by playing back the tape, talking to my sponsor, meetings and my relationship with the higher power.

As a matter of fact today I'm about a week away from 4 years clean and sober. I had to call my sponsor so you can calm me down. That happens a lot less frequently these days. But it still happens. But when I was two days sober all I needed was more time.

Oh absolutely it does! Once you start working with a sponsor, and get a few meetings in you will start to feel the relief. Be patient and kind to yourself. Don’t try to fix things in a day… it won’t work. The only thing you need to do right now is stay clean. One day, hour or minute at a time.
