I am struggling with life. Depression makes everyday hard. I drink often and would like to quit.
Beth you CAN do this. The cycle/loop of the depression and the absolute gut wrenching fear of the unknown keeps us from taking first steps. I felt just like you did. I’m 5 years sober now. I don’t even crave a drink. I went to outpatient rehab and Addiction therapy helps/helped me the most. It’s taking that first step….
Thank you for your encouragement and I celebrate you on your 5 years of sobriety!
Download Meeting Guide on your phone or go to www.aa.org and go to a meeting asap. Raise your hand a say you wanna stop and women there will help you. Good luck and god bless . One day at a time
You can do it Beth!
Lets take a break from drinking just fir today
I see you joined 3 days ago and then you drank so let's get a new beginning today and let's not drink together
Tomorrow is day 400 since I last had a drink. My journey eliminating alcohol from my life: therapy at least once or twice a week, surround myself with friends who understand and either don’t drink or are respectful of your sobriety, and at first (I might get yelled at on this thread and we all have our own journey) have some non-alcoholic drinks on hand when you feel like a cocktail.
And one last note on this: alcohol is a depressant and some of the darkest, saddest days of my life involved alcohol. The first few weeks after your brain chemistry begins sorting itself out will be tough, but in the long run I’ve been able to handle my depression much better!
Hang in there Beth! One day at a time, find a meeting to get you going, support helps in the beginning!
