I am struggling with the idea of being sober on

I am struggling with the idea of being sober on my vacation out the country. Why can’t I have champagne while over looking the ocean? Why can’t I enjoy these things with my friends? I feel so left out. Any tips for staying sober while everyone else seems to be having a great time drinking?

I have the book. I’ll read it. Thanks!

A seltzer has the same bubbles, light flavor and color as champagne… who says you can’t enjoy those things. Looking at the ocean, sipping from a stem glass… it’s just the liquid in the glass that’s different. Added bonus you will have full memory of that sunset.

The addiction always calls me back when I travel if you feel like using call or tell someone I can’t do this alone :pray::pray: I hope you have a great time

I kind of like being sober on vacation. I’ve been sober while vacationing in Atlantic City. I find I’m a better blackjack player sober, and when I’m not hungover I can go to the hotel gym in the morning and work off the buffet dinner, then lay out by the pool.

When I travel abroad, I always worry about someone taking advantage of me. When I’m sober, I know no one can take advantage of me because I’m not mentally there. I think of being empowered to be safe no matter where I go when I am sober in foreign spaces.

Where are you going? I was worried about going to my place in Baja Mexico for the first time not drinking because for me, that’s what it was all about! It was hard but I did it! The next time was easier, and so on. The best thing was how good I felt for not picking up! I hate disappointment, lol! Let me know, I can give you tips on what worked for me:call_me_hand:t3::call_me_hand:t3::v:t3::sunglasses:

I hate to put this on you but the last thing I would be doing is going on vacation while I'm trying to stop drinking and exposing myself to people that are drinking.

Sooner or later you're going to feel sorry enough for yourself and you're going to want to pick up a drink. If you're having a problem with alcohol then the only solution is going to be complete abstinence.

When the cravings come along in the beginning you need to play the scene all the way through. You might feel good for a while but what usually happens when you drink. Only you can answer that. And if it's not a good place, there's no reason to believe that it will be different this time. That's the lie that alcohol tells us. This time everything will be okay. But it never is, is it?

The only place I recommend for people when they're trying to stop drinking alcohol and change their lives is the meeting rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous until we can understand how to live one day at a time without picking up a drink. Taking the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous gives us the transformation that we need to live life to the fullest without picking up a drink.

The longer you stay sober the longer you will realize that people who drink see things through a different set of glasses than people who are sober. Most of the time, the good time that they seem to be having is artificial.

You ask anyone who has been sober for any length of time and they will tell you that it's not hard to have a good time without picking up a drink. And you'll also find out that most of the time people that drink do ridiculous things that they probably wouldn't do if they weren't drinking.

My friends and family are fantastic! They know I don’t drink and don’t pressure me at all. This had nothing to do with them pressuring me to drink. So please do not assume you know everyone’s situation. This was about ME seeing other people enjoy drinks in moderation, while I have this disease that doesn’t know how to drink in moderation. That’s it.

Wonderful idea! That’s what I’m going to do. Sometimes I find all I need is something in my hand and it doesn’t need to be alcohol. Thank you!

Nice! I’ve never been but going to Italy next year! Anyway, I drank NA beer and virgin drinks, say if everyone was trying a mango margarita I would have a virgin, etc but mostly, if everyone started getting drunk and annoying I disappeared. No one will miss you
And I just had fun talking to people, exploring and checking things out until I wasn’t annoyed any more, lol. Hope that helps and have a great trip:call_me_hand:t3::call_me_hand:t3::v:t3::sunglasses:

Good to know!!! Thanks so much

You’re never alone here! Everyone else can drink because they are chemically different than us we have a gene that 90% doesn’t have. Early on I stayed off the tracks so I didn’t get hit by the train!! Best wishes my friend
