I checked in yesterday to a residential treatment center at the VA; I messed up almost 18 years of sobriety.

You didn't mess up 18 years, you have 18 years experience and a disease that does not discriminate against. A cancer patient doesn't mess up when it comes back after being dormant, they get it treated and move forward! From a fellow vet you've got this!

I want to pause and acknowledge how much courage this took. To put your hand up after 18 years and say 'I need help' is one of the bravest things I’ve seen. You didn't lose those 18 years.. you're just fighting to save the next 18. We are right here behind you, rooting for you. Go get your life back.
