I constantly have dreams I'm drinking. I absolutely hate them!

I constantly have these vivid dreams I'm drinking. I absolutely hate them! Last night I had one and had to start back at day one (treatment and the whole nine yards which lead to serious guilt and shame). I felt it. I woke up scared and almost feeling it was real. Does anyone else have these dreams, I mean nightmares? I'm early on in recovery (80 days), do they go away?

Thank God they are only dreams, but still.

Anyway, Happy Friday!

Can’t run from dreams. Yet, not reality. Just shake them off and know you living the right path. They have a way of reminding you of the ugly. Set them aside and move on. Congrats on those hard earned 80 days. Keep them going.

Consider it a freebie, a relapse in your dreams is definitely better than a real life slip, it’s your subconscious telling you what will happen if you do drink… I don’t know if they go away but I know the longer we stay sober the obsession of the mind will fade more, good luck keep up the great work

What you experienced is not unusual. It is what some call a "drunk dream". I still have them occasionally. When I wake up, I can often taste bourbon or vodka on my lips or in my mouth. It can be quite upsetting a disturbing. But it is natural. Your dreams are not real. But they can serve as a harsh reminder of what I used to be like and, more importantly l, what I do NOT want to go back to.

Just shake it off and be greatful it wasn’t reality and keep moving forward

For me, they have become fewer and further between as time went on.

Thank you!

Thank you, Ryan! You're right, that freebie should be looked at as a reminder of how much I do not want to feel/be that way. Gonna look at those nasty dreams and be thankful it's not my reality.

Thank you, TJ.

I use to have a lot of them my first year. What helped me I would read a little from the big book. They definitely felt real

I was actually prescribed prazosin for nightmares because I was having "drug dreams" when I was in treatment. I still have occasionally and they're very vivid. Absolutely hate them.

Just remember that any conscious or subconscious cravings will pass, along with the anxiety that accompanies them. Sleep well soon!
