I did it!

I went to my first sporting event in 18 years (ATL Hawks game) this weekend without drinking. :raised_hands:t2:

Might sound silly, but this was a massive milestone. Many more to come!

How did you feel during the game? Were there any triggers or thoughts and if so how did you handle them

Hey Luis!

There were definitely triggers when first getting there - the noise, the crowd/lines, and seeing others drinking. But instead of running from it, I took some time to watch people. It was funny how quickly I realized that they drank so differently than I did. I usually would have 8+ beers at a game, but everyone I watched had only 1-2 the whole game. It was eye-opening.

At one point I was a little overwhelmed, so I took a walk around the stadium, found a quieter area with TVs and food, and took a personal breather. Between taking time to see how my drinking was much different than many and also giving myself a mental break, it was a great experience and a HUGE confidence booster.

Man that is awesome! Nothing sounds silly and we all know how big personal milestones are. Proud of you for taking that time to notice the differences. I know I don’t you from Adam but I’m so happy for you

Lol I was definitely 8 to infinity beers a game and I appreciate the feedback…. I’m still not where I need to be to attend a game or any function with booze around but I’ll get there

You will my friend. You’ll know when you’re ready. And if you get there and you don’t feel comfortable, home is always a quick drive away.

That’s awesome ! It’s a huuuge milestone ! Don’t minimize your hard work!

Appreciate the support Rebekah!

Thank you Jen. Being easy on myself has never been my strong suit. Learning to really celebrate the wins, small and large :raised_hands:t2:

AWESOME! This is a huge accomplishment!

I remember being 2 months clean and sober going to a Cleveland Indian’s game and coming to the realization that I had been drinking at these games and all other sporting events since I was 16, so 10 years later and I was finally able to actually watch and follow the game. Also, the feeling of relief and knowing I didn’t drain the bank spending $15 a beer feels great.

Keep it up! Many more games in your future!

No joke on the expensive beer prices, what a MAJOR money (and headaches) savings :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. Thank you for the support!

Thank you and I am totally with you there. I was a party animal, so there was always a huge beer in each hand (and maybe another between my feet for backup) at every sports event I went to. Kind of wild to look around and realize how many other people weren’t going as hard as I was.
