I don't know where to start? I'm a heavy

I don't know where to start? I'm a heavy daily drinker when I drink. But somehow I manage to quit for months at a time with relative ease. Other times it's impossible to quit. I finally realize that I can't control the alcohol, it's the other way around. I never talk to anyone about quitting, I just go for it. That way noone is disappointed when I start back. This time I'm ready to be done for good. I'm hoping I can find a friend that supports and understands this journey to rediscover myself.

Hi Kenny! You do know where to start. In fact, this post is a start. Actually, all those times you stopped were a start. You are on your way to recovery without even realizing it. This app is a good tool to connect and get some info on how others are successfully achieving sobriety. Most of them are practicing a daily program of recovery. Popular ones that I can name off the top of my head are AA, The Luckiest Club, and SMART Recovery. I do AA and love it. I’ve recently checked out The Luckiest Club, and it looks like a great alternative as well. Either way, I hope you find what you are looking for :peace_symbol:

Welcome Kenny! You are already taking those first steps, admitting something isn’t right and reaching out for help. Creating a sober community can be really helpful in staying sober, Loosid and other meeting style programs can help with that. Good luck!

Did you need medical detox esp if you were drinking heavily. It took surrender for me as left to my devices, I will drink.

No, I've never done a medical detox.

I’m a recovering alcoholic and addict. I am a healthcare provider as well and helped many people detox. Alcohol detox is actually more deadly than any other substances to detox from.

Hello Kenny, you took the first step by admitting you have a problem. You will need support. The biggest thing I learned the hard way is 1 drink is too much 100 is not enough. That simply means you can never have another drink ever. Alcohol affects the brain in a way that you will wind up where you started. You might want to read the book Alcohol Explained by William Porter. It's not a technical tomb but easy to read and understand. I think it will help. Reach out anytime
