I feel like I drink because I’m not in love, but can’t find love because I drink. Very tricky situation

Steve I don't mean to be so harsh but you need to hear this. Those are excuses my man. Excuses to stay on the floor and not get up. Excuses to make you believe you are not worth it and that life will pass you by while others will go on for greatness. F*** that nonsense. Get up and realize you are worth every good thing in life and that life will bless you unconditionally with all the love you deserve. But most of all that if you don't start loving the man you see in the mirror first non of this will ever happen. Don't look for love from anyone except yourself. Tell yourself you are worth it and that you are beautiful. Hug yourself right now and say, "Steve I love you and you are never going to be lonely as long as you believe that I truly mean what I say." You got this my man and stop doubting yourself and telling yourself you don't deserve to be loved. Stay strong and keep reaching out. We are all in this together.. now start loving yourself..

Thanks for the dope reply. I’m lucky I had almost 2 years sober before so I do have the experience of KNOWING I honestly like being sober better, and learned to love myself then. I had Uber confidence then as well, as if I could easily find someone I could relate with, it just so happened it was right when covid hit lol🤦‍♂️. Truth can stand the pressure.

Covid fed us all up. I didn't work and just drugged all the time. Lost someone who I thought I loved of 5 years, a dog, a cat, materialistic items, my sanity, dignity, and respect for myself. But I'm slowly getting those things back besides the ex. She can stay where shes at because one thing I did learn through it all, she was not supportive and didn't care about my sobriety. Everything happens for a reason which is so cliche but I'm starting to believe it more with each passing day. I have a better job, a small support group who cares about my sobriety, and most of all my daughter who I still have custody of. Not to mention I fING love myself so much these days that I actually tell myself what I told you daily. That, "Thomas I love you, you are beautiful person, and f***ING believe in you. Now own the day."

Looking for love in early sobriety is really a disguise for looking for a void filler, whether we realize it or not. That void you feel in your heart is only God shaped, and that is the only true fill. Pray on it. It probably won't work over night, but do it open, honest and willingly, and it will. Just like only a higher power can ultimately remove our obsession to drink, only a higher power can remove that need for what we think is love from another person, but is actually a desperate desire to fill the God shaped void in our hearts. Have faith in his timing, put in the work, and do the next right thing, and the rewards are endless :slightly_smiling_face:
