i feel like such a loser for relapsing after having 18 days sober in rehab. and i am having a hard time getting into AA especially because i don’t believe in god and i’m on methadone. but the AA people i barely know check in on me more than my “friends”. there was a speaker a few days before i left rehab who ran the home group for my town and he took my number down and gave it to a female AA member who has been texting me for days offering to take me to a meeting. i genuinely want to go but i have gd covid.
Hang in there, check out zoom meetings until you can go in person. Don't worry about the god shït, it's unnecessary. Just go where there are sober people, when you're able.
You are worth getting better. It’s okay to make mistakes you’re not perfect and I applaud you for getting back up and keep trying. You should be proud of yourself for reaching out!
My first relapse was right after I finished my IOP program, was sober for 7 months and thought I'd be okay with having 1 drink. That 1 drink turned into 2 1/2 years worth of 1 drinks. Start again and again and again if you need to. Hang in there and keep trying.
Zoom meetings
This whole “relapse is back at day one thing” is a cultist way of thinking and I hate it. Forget your sobriety date, forget what other people say, forget everything but what works for you! A slip is not a relapse if you bounce back, IMO! Screw sobriety dates.
Hey your not a looser you a winner for still trying!! You don’t have to believe in God to get sober just something more powerful than yourself use the rooms as your HP if you need too:man_shrugging:
Imagine how you'll feel when you're free! I hope you get feeling better soon, and avoid these feelings moving forward by casting aside the slavery of addition. It's in you, and you sure can.
Hang in there - I’m a town over here in New Rochelle. Plenty of meeting options in westchester. Once you bounce back from Covid just take the next step and attend meeting. Small yet significant step in the right direction.
Download the Everything AA app if you haven’t already and look up some online/zoom meetings.
It’s something to keep your head clear and focused on your sobriety. Even if you don’t share, it’s always good to hear other talk or simply just hearing someone else’s thoughts or stories can be helpful Luna.
Hang in there and I wish you a speedy recovery from Covid.
Agreed. The You did not lose the days you had.
Absolutely... just learn something from each "relapse* or "slip" and add to your tools...like a sober terminator
. Keep at it....good luck
It happens. But we don’t all get a chance to come back. Be grateful for the second chance.
Think of the AA group as a life raft and your drowning. Do what ever is needed to to get and stay sober. You don’t have to believe everything. But try it. You just need some willingness and an open mind. If I can do it, anyone can.
There is a solution.
ODAAT
I did too and it’s a normal feeling that should last no more than a week or it becomes negative…one day at a time and you will get back there…don’t give up on yourself…God bless
Hi Luna, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, it's important to recognize that setbacks can happen in recovery, but they don't define your journey. Our community is here to support you!
It’s not about the time. It’s about today, are you trying to improve? Are you moving in that direction? If the answer is yes, you are doing great! This is an internal job that we use to rely on external solutions to fix. Those don’t change but you can, so focus on you. The journey has lots of suggestions, find those that work for you but most importantly stay open to changing in ways that you couldn’t imagine. That where the higher power stuff comes in, don’t limit your journey, be open to other perspectives and unlearning so much of what we thought was best. Hopefully that makes sense, we are here for you
Try to be gentle on yourself, what we have is a disease, drinking is the symptom. Also, our higher power doesn’t have to be god. * It’s as we understand him * we all have a personal blend of a higher power. Remember, easy does it. It will be okay.
