I find it disheartening that I know longer enjoy the activities I used to now that I'm sober, such as fishing:fishing_pole_and_fish:, going to concerts:studio_microphone:, gardening:tomato:... when I always had a beer in my hand. I'm struggling with the "fun" aspect in life. Its hard.

It takes time  It is what you were used to / it was apart of a routine or ritual and no one likes to break those things. You will find people, music, and nature to be what relaxes you not alcohol! It’s hard but I believe in you :raised_hands:

I relate to this deeply. For me, it’s really come down to replacing the ritual. It’s still difficult though. I’m wishing you all the best, Mack. I hope you find joy in your activities again!

I remember feeling this way. Golf, camping, fishing, anytime I worked on my house… it took a bit but now I have learned to golf without being drunk (and my score is better) I love camping and exploring the forest with clear eyes and not getting lost, I can take in all the beauty when fishing… I can not imagine drinking when doing these activities now. Slow yourself to have fun. You deserve it.

Sometimes we have to rediscover the things we found fun in our life. For instance, I am a chef, I've always loved cooking. One day I forgot why and had to rediscover the fun in it.

How long have you been sober? Everything is weird in the beginning.

Me too, after 30+ years of use, I don’t know much else. It’s been the hardest part, but getting better. Hang in there.

I feel ya…but I’m starting to really have fun doing some things. I still get bothered by it, but it’s getting better. Hang in there!

For me I feel that God has removed the things that no longer serve us. I to have found the material less desirable. I believe it’s a step towards freedom as we continue our sobriety. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. The longer I’m sober the less interest I have in myself and more interest in others.

What I do for fun; read, write, help others, go to meetings, hike, backpack, ride my bike, cook, clean, play bass guitar, and watch documentaries/educational programs. Learning to be content with one’s self will take practice to become habit

If you could just have a beer while doing those things, you probably wouldn't be posting on this site.
I have sober friends I regularly golf with & we have a blast. I play better, too. My sponsor and I go musky fishing each autumn and always have a great time. My flower gardens & lawn look much better since I've been sober, too. I've learned to appreciate the little things now that my head is clear.
Give it time, you'll realize that everything is more enjoyable when you're sober.

I had 11.5 months, then relapsed. Now I'm on day 22 sober. I agree, time is a big factor in this matter, or at least that is what everyone keeps telling me. "Patience" is key, but not easy.

As summer approaches I can definitely relate, I hope you’re joy in those things come back

Everyone telling you that is correct, but I 100% understand how it doesn’t feel like it. Patience isn’t my biggest strength, but it’s all I have anymore, and that’s ok.
