I found out I have PTSD and generalized

I found out I have PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder. My psychiatrist told me that I tend to drink to relieve my anxiety because it helps a lot! I start my anxiety medication this week and I’m excited because I want my life back. I also can’t drink with this pill or I will get super sick. I only want to drink when I’m extremely anxious. I’ve read good things on Lexapro and I hope this gives me the boost at a calmer life.

You can get your life back. I know you're dealing with a lot right now. Hang in there. Get rest. Talk things out. Cry. Create a list of people you can call when you're struggling. My DM is open, too.

Wow! That’s great to know. Can you send me a DM so I can ask some questions.

Lexapro helped me tremendously!

I read reviews about it being a little sucky when you first start, is that true ?

I have combat related PTSD, Anxiety disorder, MDD. My psychiatrist put me on Effexor about 6 yrs ago for the anxiety, depression and mild body pain. With propranolol for breakthrough anxiety or the more sever anxiety. I've heard amazing things about Lexapro and that it is actually a little more effective than Effexor.

For me it wasn’t. It did take a few weeks to really kick in and start working but 10mg has worked for me the last year

None of those types of meds have ever, and I mean ever, helped me. I’ve been on every kind, you name it, since I was 17. I’m 35 now. I have ptsd, trauma, gad, depression. Only thing that’s ever helped for me is Ativan or herb. I’ve woken up out of a deep sleep once with Paxil. My skin was crawling and I felt like I was gonna be sick and dying. Called an ambulance. Wellbutrin made me feel like I was on meth or something. Those are just a few that I’ve had bad experiences with, but none have ever worked for me. I hope you have luck though!!

I found that after a year sober Indidnt need my anti-anxiety meds (also Lexapro) any longer but they did help tamp down all the anxiety I had, created largely by own destructive behavior. Havent used it i
n almost 3 years now. As the drama and chaos disappeared I found that Incould deal with life without the meds. But in the beginning it allowed me to get sleep and be functional

It does take a couple weeks to get used to it but in most cases you’ll see an improved you in no time. And yes!! No drinking with it!!

Just remember the meds will help a lot but putting in practices to de-escalate stress and anxiety make the good the meds do infinitely better.
