I found this app and community last week when I

I found this app and community last week when I was hungover (and likely still drunk) in my bathtub before work, feeling like shit. I woke up in bed with the lights on in my room, forgetting to have set an alarm and with my phone almost dead. It was just a normal Thursday night, at least I thought (I had thought this often, weekly even). I wanted to unwind with some wine and told myself I wouldn’t leave the house to get more. Of course I did. I felt so disappointed and frustrated as I tried to recuperate in the bathtub. I was looking for apps just to count days sober as an attempt to not drink when I stumbled upon this one. I wrote my first post then and there. I wasn’t expecting any interactions; I just wanted to talk about my shame out loud. The past few days, I remember this app and see comments and messages of support and insight from other people on this journey of recovery. I appreciate the interest in and support of my first few days into a healthier life from everyone who has taken the time to comment.

Good afternoon Alana !!!
How are you doing on this fine afternoon? Thank you for sharing your story. I don’t know how many times I woke up feeling like shit. Woke up with the lights on. I was in every day drinker and when I say drinker I don’t mean lightly. I drink very heavy. I remember one New Year’s I was by myself I drank a fifth and a half of whiskey and a case of beer and still wanted more. That was a drinker. I could drink many of people under the table I was proud of that. But not anymore it’s been 37 years since I had a drink. But then I decided enough was enough and it really wasn’t enough. I stopped before I killed myself and I was on my way to do that. And I still need help every now and again. And I know where to go to now. Because I now have a family that cares about me and this is it. This is my family now and I enjoy helping others as well. So if you ever feel like talking lock me up I’ll chat with you. It’s all because I want to help you stay sober. All you need is faith within yourself that you can do this because you can do this.

Hi Alana, that’s the beauty of this community, with every struggle you will find someone who can relate and people who support you. You are taking a huge step in committing to be sober, you can do this! Feel free to reach out if you ever need/want to talk!

Hey Alana. I have just signed up here and was looking through recent posts. I’m brand new to the site but we’ll versed in the feelings of shame and guilt and just utter misery. I can already see this site may be just the thing to help when things are not going “great”! I cant stress enough how the people around me, my support network and my willingness to become vulnerable with my struggles have helped me stay sober! It comes down to letting it out and allowing others to help. Easier said than done I know haha. You got this. Remember you’re not alone. Reach out if you need to!!

I always get amazed how great I feel a couple of days in! Then I think hell what’s one beer-always leads me to the ABC Store after with at least 1
Half gallon of vodka. Glad you’re here. We can take this road to recovery together.

i truly appreciate this comment. and 37 years!! that is absolutely amazing, but i know it’s not without hardship. needing help even after 37 years sounds pretty damn human to me. glad you are here

thank you steve. i see this being reiterated with others as well. about finding people who can listen. admitting a problem like this out loud to close friends can feel embarassing, but if i know my friends at all, they will be more than loving and supportive. thank you for the reminder

thank u for your honesty. that’s honestly how i’m feeling right now. it’s been great being sober but my thought is "what about a beer or two". just reminding myself i have yet to prove to myself that it’s just one or two beers and that it’s not worth it right now
