The depression will pass. The cravings will pass. Stay strong. You can do it. And I’m here if you need someone to talk to. Feel free to message me.

Cravings suck. Every no to them makes them that much weaker. Takes a while but the other areas of life gain the luster they had before booze.

Substance use causes depression!!! Go to a meeting when you get a chance and talk about yourself!!! Congratulations on reaching the 30 day mark..I reached mine a few days ago and I understand the craving when alone ugh!! It sucks!! But what else do we have than each other to carry us..make good friends and take it one day at a time !!!

What Amit said. In my first couple months I went to meetings everyday. It helped me focus on other things plus it kept me somewhere where there wasn't alcohol. I got a bunch of people's phone numbers from meetings and just hang with sober people (much different than people who simply don't drink) and all of that really helped.

I did go to one lastnight.. Its hard to find NA ones out here though.

If you're having a hard time finding NA meetings, maybe try to find a secular AA meeting (non religious). We are much less rigid regarding addict/alcoholic than a lot of the AA meetings, or maybe find women's AA meetings, and simply intro yourself by your name. I know of many members who won't specify or call themselves addicts or alcoholics. Don't trip on it. Just get somewhere where people are trying to have better lives.

AA twelve steps saved my life. Program by design right out of the Big Book. I’m first and foremost a recovered alcoholic but did enough crack and meth to qualify for NA, CA or CMA. The substance we use isn’t the problem. The spiritual sickness inside us is. Need to find peace within without using the substance. Sounds very difficult, but really much much easier than it is to try to stay high or drunk

It will pass, mine lasted a couple months but got a little better each week. Trust me, it does get better and it's so worth it!

Kamren, where are you from? I have moved in recovery-Connecticut to Ohio. Man, it was an experience. Unlike what has been said before, depression may not pass if you’re someone who suffers from clinical depression, like myself. If the depression real and real bad, see a professional either a psychiatrist for medication or a counselor to talk through the depressive pain. As for cravings. It has been said that cravings usually last only like 3 minutes. Then it passes. When I feel it’s lasting longer or becoming more frequent I tell myself “move a muscle, change a thought!” Meaning, DO SOMETHING. MOVE. Create a new response to craving. We usually pick up when experiencing the phenomenon of craving. Start doing something, ten jumping jacks and a 7 minute dance session-then when the cravings hit, it becomes second nature to do that other thing-yen jumping jacks and a 7 min dance session, for example.

I use that phrase “move a muscle, change a thought” more often than I actually realize. Because I often times don’t like what’s going on in my head. Essentially, we have to act our way in to right thinking. We can’t think our way in to right acting. Or, in other words, there are the thinkers and the doers. The thinkers think about what the doers are doing while the doers are making changes and succeeding.

Don't give up.

You're stronger than you know. It's the addition trying to convince you otherwise.

Hopefully you attend meetings. having a fellowship is the key to your strength. That's after you become more spiritual with your higher power

Remember, it’s easier to stay sober than it is to get sober. Also, if you don’t drink you’ll never have to feel this way again!

What are you doing to fill the void of time you used to spend drinking? If the answer is "not much" then it should be no surprise to you that the cravings are still actively at the front of your brain. Getting sober isn't just about not drinking or using anymore, bud. Getting sober is a lifestyle change. You can't be even a shred of the person you were before and expect it to work. You're essentially learning how to walk all over again. 30 days is commendable, but it's still early. Don't fall for the trap that your mind is supposed to have it all sorted out so quickly. The brain takes months and sometimes even a full year or so to recover from the effects of addiction. Keep that in mind when you're getting discouraged. You're farther now than you were 30 days ago. But you've got to find something healthy to do with your mind. And your hands. Take up a hobby. Draw, paint, get into wood working. Find something that allows you to use your mind in a meaningful way. It gets easier man. Have patience and believe fully that even the hard days sober are substantially better than the good days in addiction, of which there aren't any.

If you're in a supportive place, put everything else on the back burner. I'm proud of you. XD
