I got a job and it is at an upscale restaurant/rooftop bar. I need to make money as I've resigned as a teacher (over 23 years ) it was just way too much to deal with and very stressful: I also went to rehab for 30 days and it was a life changer.
Does anyone have experience working as a server with alcohol everywhere? I am 85 days sober and honestly have not had cravings. I have been going to meetings and have a good support system.
@jenn122709 began her sobriety as a bartender. It can be done.
I always knew which side of the bar I belonged on. I couldn’t have served it when I was drinking. And I’m grateful I don’t have to be around it much in my current job.
Congratulations on 85 days!!! Fantastic accomplishment. Keep it going
Yikes.
Hours around drunks and the smell of booze. Sounds like my he11. Be careful. Wish you the best. Make recovery your priority.
I'm
Really not worried about it right now. SLIP is when Sobriety Lost It's Priority
I also take Naltrexone so if I did drink I'd be very sick and I don't have the craving to drink at all. It actually kind of repulses me ...
Don’t loos sight of sobriety and meetings.it will make you stronger.aa🐪
Facts
I've been on and off in the service industry for years and just jumped back in sober about 5 months ago. I had some reservations as well but honestly it's helped me stay sober. I see pretty clearly now how I'm happy to not be on the other side and not making a fool of myself. Based on your post it sounds like you will be just fine. You got the support system and if it feels like it gets tough you know you can rely on them.
John, thank you! I need to pay my bills and the money is good there. It is fast paced and I am concerned that this old gal might not keep up like I used to ha But teaching right now is so depressing and I had to leave the profession for at least a year.
Oh I understand. The money can be so good when you find that right place. Keep that head down and grind em out and you'll find that rhythm again, no doubt.
Hi Erin, I was a bartender for 9 years, and bartended full-time for the first 11 months of my sobriety. It is possible. Some suggestions based on my experience: do not hang out after work, be forthright about your sobriety with your coworkers, have a plan if there’s a work function that will include drinking, have sober people to check-in with if you are having a wobbly day, keep sobriety as your number one priority. Good luck! And check-in here or message me if I need support.
Thank you!
ERIN , YOU GOT THIS, nothing is in impossible.. Just stay Sober..
I have worked my first huge shift and I was actually repulsed secretly watching people do shots and get stupid I had no desire to drink either the smell was gross
