I grieve every day the person I didn't become

I grieve every day the person I didn't become. The person I couldn't become because alcohol and addiction put a brick wall up sky high in the entrance to that path. That being said, I think it's time I celebrate who I am today and the obstacles I've been able to overcome. Easier said than done. But I wanted to thank myself...give myself a slice of appreciation and gratitude for getting to this point. Thank me, I love you. #3weeks #sober #thankmeiloveyou

My sponsor told me that my higher power wants my dreams to come true, but that my higher power also wants me to dream different dreams

I used for 30 years and those thoughts creep in sometimes. All the things I could have done differently. But it doesn’t help, all we have is today and positive hope for tomorrow, we have to learn from, but let go of the past. Easier said than done, I know.

This hits home for me; I feel the same. I know resentment is something I must let go of, but it’s hard to imagine my future self when I am always comparing it to who I was once on the way to becoming. The shame hurts sometimes. Love you for who you will be brother.

We are still learning who we are sober. I'm learning every day who this sober Michael is. His flaws, his strengths, and his sober dance moves! Always give yourself credit every evening that you went another day sober. I'm sure that brick wall is slowly crumbling down. And who knows what lies on the other side waiting for you. Might not be what you expected, but it might be something way better!

Well said Michael

Couldnt have said it better. Its tough always trying to be happy about what youve accomplished, when the dark clouds of all the mistakes and failures hang over your head, but its better than constantly beating yourself over things you cant change. Im far from mastering that train of thought, but its a start.

I too think of the past and how it could be so much different if I only knew then what I know now. It’s taking 29 months of continuous sobriety and working the steps to come out of this shell of depression and anxiety. The past are memories, the future is full of endless opportunities but the now is where the magic happens. I have learned that most of my depression or anxiety is full of fear. Fear of not getting something I want. I’m learning to operate on gratitude for what I have right now. Yes I can dream about the future and I do. But there’s a difference between a dream and having an expectation that I should get something in the future. I don’t deserve anything. Therefore I’m grateful for the now.

Keep your head up. Love yourself. Love others. Help others.

I totally feel this on so many levels. I actually wrote about that this morning. My sobriety has become my superpower. Think about how strong you are now that you’ve chosen to get sober. Life never goes the way we want, and now you have a drive for life in ways a lot of people don’t have. I’ve really begun to truly appreciate things I probably wouldn’t have if I didn’t go down this road. Think about the generational cycles you’re breaking & that you can reach people that a lot of people can’t because you relate on a different level. Sobriety can be your superpower too! #498dayssober
